1978 GMC Brigadier with Detroit 6V92
1978 GMC Other Single Axle Description
Hello Diesel Truck Enthusiasts! I have a true gem with a clear title for you all here today listed low to move fast. Mine is simply the same old situation, "too many projects & not enough time". I picked this baby up a few years ago and added some nice pieces to sweeten the deal. The truck started life as a bare tractor as most of these old single axle dumps did. It's a beast rated to 46,000 lbs GVW (see jamb placard). The truck has manual steering that works surprisingly well. The transmission is a "straight' seven speed with no splitter that shifts beautifully.
This truck has the coveted Detroit 6V92. These engines are two stroke units that run super strong and last virtually forever. Go on YouTube and see many fine examples out there still working everyday. They were known for their durability & power and were only discontinued in street trucks because they were loud & needed to rev- so not the most economical on dead dinosaurs. There is nothing else that sounds like it! The engine was "in frame" rebuilt approximately 20,000 miles ago, is super strong and purrs like a kitten. The clutch was replaced at that time as well as the rear & brakes. Quality replacement engine parts are both inexpensive and readily available. The frame is solid with only minor surface rust, the mechanics are all good and I used it the last few years on my property to move material around with ease.
The hydraulic ram was rebuilt a few years ago & works perfect and tailgate operates the same. The box is pretty rough. The next owner can either replace it entirely (standard size & many options out there) or rebuild it with new steel sections. I am including a "new" cab I picked-up last year (see pics- white) due to the rough condition of the existing one. The new cab has only minimal surface rust and is from a 1987. The doors on the new cab are fantastic and a cab swap will save the next owner a ton of reconditioning time & cost. I also am including a brand new grill in the sale from NOS circa 1978 as well. The tires are satisfactory and hold air perfect. The tilting, fiberglass front nose section is in good shape. All lights and gauges work just fine.
This truck presents many options for the next owner. It can be a great winter project that rolls out like new in the spring for use or show. It can be gone over in a streamlined fashion and put to work pretty quickly for many more years of service. Or it can simply be an engine donor for some other cool project requiring one of the most revered diesel engines ever built. It's your choice and my starting bid is very fair for any scenario you should choose.
This is the part where I say, "don't ask me questions" while respectfully grinning. I know there are VOLUMES of questions that could be generated folks. Please study the pics/info and arrive at your own conclusions based onyour, specific, expectations. She goes as-is and there's no trick photos. You are, of course, welcome to shoot me any Q's and I'll do my best to satisfy you.
$500 is due immediately upon auction end to lock the deal. We need to coordinate the final cash payment & pickup within two weeks and some flexibility for good communicators. The truck is located in the Scranton area and hauling it back is the next owner's responsibility. I know a great local hauler option you can call but, I strongly suggest buyers get accurate hauling estimates prior to bidding. I will work carefully with you to accommodate the pickup. I am a very reasonable long-term eBayer with a perfect track record of happy vehicle customers. I will closely communicate with the the lucky winner to ensure you get her home safe.
She's a fine example of one of the best rigs ever built and you'll find yourself just letting her idle like your favorite soundtrack. Your friends will absolutely love the howl when you roll gears down the road.
Thanks so much for looking and have a great day!
Update 9/19/19: Received some great messages and glad there are folks who appreciate this rig. In an effort to help the sale, I reduced it so it's more affordable. If anyone else needs the local hauler contact info, private message me and good luck!!!
