1978 GMC Sierra 2500 Description

1978 GMC C25 Sierra Classic Camper Special454 Big Block truck with 53k Original Miles.
Please read through the description below thoroughly. I know it is long-winded, but this truck deserves it......
Let me start by saying that this is a VERY, VERY special truck. As far as I am aware, this is the most highly optioned GMC truck available in '78 with 454, TH400 trans, 3.73 differential. Air, Tilt, Cruise, Power door locks, Intermittent wipers, Dual fuel tanks (both work perfectly), "Silverado Trim Package" on Exterior/Interior, etc. Speaking of "trim".... All of the aluminum body moldings are in SUPERB condition. Almost unheard of on a truck of this age. As seen, the original owner added the fender turn-signal indicators (work perfectly), and the old Packard hood ornament. Gotta love the "old guy" mods! The only other modification from stock is that the factory radio has been "upgraded", and kick panel speakers added. Dash was NOT cut or modified, so these are easily reversable.
Truck was owned by same family from 1980-2019. From brand new, this has been used SOLELY for summer camping and for towing a small horse trailer. Truck still had a large camper fitted until my ownership (camper not included). While the truck is originally from Minnesota, it has NEVER seen a winter, and has ALWAYS been stored indoors when not in use. I have purchased and owned many Western and Southern trucks, From Montana to Texas to California....and this one is by far THE most RUST-FREE, SOLID, ORIGINAL, UNMOLESTED "40+ year old" Chevy/GMC pickup I have ever owned. At the time of writing this ad, the odometer reads 53616 miles and is 100% accurate. Mileage will go up slightly as my family and I continue to enjoy this truck until it sells. Once reserve is met, truck will be stored indoors until auctions' end and new owner claims their prize!!
This truck features the coveted Deluxe Camper Special "Z83" Option which means, it has front/rear sway bars, Elimi-pitch package, which consisted of "bed-to-cab shock absorbers, chrome shock absorbing camper "tie-downs", etc. All of which are included. Truck will also come with receiver hitch style "bumper slide out" brackets for when large 12' camper is in bed. All of these are factory GMC/Chevy parts, and are bolt/pin-on.
As far as cosmetics?..... The body is still wearing 98% of its original Mariner Blue/Light blue paint. Paint has a nice shine, with just a hint of "patina" showing through on the top of the hood from sun fade. Single stage metallics are notorious for this, but IMHO, I love a bit of history in my original paint. The areas that have been repainted are the (Mariner Blue) top of the tail gat, and 2 small spots of Light blue were professionally touched up on front fenders where additional camper mounts were installed and removed. The upper tailgate paint isn't a great match, but the light blue areas are virtually unnoticeable. As far as rust??? There is ONE spot of body rust on the entire truck. And when I say "One". I mean....... ONE. You would be extremely hard pressed to find a more solid "unrestored" original square body.
The drivers side fender lower collected dirt/moisture at sometime in its life between the inner and outer layer of steel, and rusted through. The largest hole is the size of a dime as is shown in the photo with my finger pointing to it. This would be an extremely easy repair as it is bordered by body/paint line and trim, and a paint-blend would be well hidden. The bed floor has a small wear spot from airbag mounts (no longer fitted) as they were too close to the bed floor. This too would be an easy (weld/touch-up paint) repair, but I am choosing to leave it "as found". The inside of the bed also has typical dents and dings as one would expect a camper truck to have. Top bed rails have a few small dings and scratches as well. I have purchased a complete polished stainless "Bed Rail Cap" set (all four sides) from LMC, and it will be included with purchase of truck. Underside of the truck is dusty, but has ABSOLUTELY NO RUST AT ALL.. Period. Photos show undercoating on door bottoms and on radiator support under hood. This was dealer applied in 1978, and is absolutely perfect underneath.
Within the last year, the truck has received new Firestone Transforce tires, complete front brake system rebuilt, AC converted to R134 (ICE COLD!!!), New Remanufactured Quadrajet (Starts and runs fantastic!), New 2 1/2" Aluminized Dual Stainless exhaust from manifolds back with Stainless Magnaflow mufflers and C7 Corvette tips. The Grill on the truck is obviously an aftermarket (Stainless) as the original plastic grill has the typical broken section near the hood release. Original grill will come with truck and could be repaired. It is in excellent condition otherwise.
Interior of this truck is as close to perfect as you will find. Perfect dash, seat, carpet, headliner, etc. Gauges are nice and bright (look at the gauge needles!!). Glass is some of the nicest you will ever see for 40+ year-old original GM glass. Everything works as it should with the exception of the cruise control (needs cable and will work perfectly again).
Truck will quietly and happily cruise all day long at 75mph due to the 3.73 rear end. Even when the camper was still in the bed (almost 3000#), it pulled long/steep hills with ease due to the 454. Engine/Drivetrain is quiet and STRONG. There is ZERO valve train noise or any other "odd" noises. Does not smoke/burn/use oil.Yes, there are a couple of minor engine oil leaks (valve covers could use gaskets and rear main) and engine compartment has not been detailed, but nothing out of the ordinary for a 43 year old 454. I would not hesitate to jump in this truck and drive it to California and back tomorrow...
As stated above, the truck runs and drives "as-new". My much newer "daily driven" Chevy 3/4 ton doesn't drive as nice as this thing. When I say "Like New", I really mean it. Just an absolute pleasure to drive.
So there you have it. Quite likely one of the nicest, low-mile, unmolested GMC Sierra Classics in existence. Whomever wins this auction will NOT be disappointed. Would be a perfect candidate for another vintage camper, or to tow a vintage race car (has trailer brake control box). Camper plug is still intact and working perfectly.
Please be sure to look over ALL of the photos very carefully, and if you have any questions at all be sure to ask BEFORE bidding. I do my best to describe things as I would like them described to me when buying from long distance/online. I do NOT like surprises and want the potential buyer to know EXACTLY what they are bidding on/buying!!!! All of that said, this is a 43 year old vehicle and comes with No Warranty, Guarantee, expressed written or implied! (Local) Potential buyers are more than welcome to see the truck in person before auctions-end as well.
Also please note that this is listed locally for sale as well, and I reserve the right to end the auction at any time I see fit up until the point where reserve is met. Once reserve is met, the auction will run its course and will be sold to the highest bidder.
Free and clear MN title ready to go....
NON REFUNDABLE deposit of $500.00 at auctions end, and balance in cash at time of pickup.Truck must be picked up at my residence in Stillwater, MN within 2 weeks of auctions end. If more time is needed, please speak to me before hand. I am easy to work with, but do not like storing other people's property...and to be honest, need the room as winter is fast approaching up here in Minnesota!
Thanksso much for looking and have a great day!
