1973 GMC Other CUSTOM Description

Up for sale is a very nice 1973 GMC C15 Custom Short Bed Pickup Truck. I am listing the truck for sale for my neighbor. I built the truck for him over the past year. It is a pretty fresh build. He loves the truck, but has another unexpected project he would like me to start on and needs to free up some space.

1973 was the first year of the square body GM pickup trucks. It was also the first year for the 454 engine. Almost everything on this truck is new. The engine and transmission were in the truck when he bought it, so I do not know much about them other than the engine is a period correct 454 big block. It runs smooth, doesn’t smoke, doesn’t burn oil, etc. Since it ran great I just did a general tune up on the engine including oil/fluids change, spark plugs, belts, air cleaner, fuel filter, wire looms, plug wire boots. It has a stock manifold, 4 barrel quadajet carburetor, and new chrome valve covers and air cleaner. The transmission is a Turbo 400 automatic. Shifts smoothly as it should. The rearend is a 12-bolt. I’m not sure what gear set is in it because I never opened the diff, but its not super torquey so I’d guess it in the 3.23 ratio range. I added new long tube headers to the just with Flowmaster style dual mufflers. All exhaust was professionally welded at local exhaust shop. Truck has power steering and power brakes.

Exterior:

Body was essentially rust free with the exception of some rust in the cab corners. They were professionally repaired before the truck was completely repainted at a local paint shop. The truck is GM color code WA7475 (Bright Red). The truck has great gaps. In addition to the new paint (which I would say is very good driver quality), the following items were also replaced:

-New Pendaliner under the rail bedliner
-Stationary back glass was installed with new gasket
-New windshield was installed with new gasket
-New front chrome bumper
-New rear chrome bumper (Blazer style)
-New rear bumper brackets
-New rear bumper tag bracket and license lamp
-New windshield wiper motor with new wiper blades
-New hood/cowl weatherstrip
-All new door rubber, window rubber, vent window rubber
-New cowl grille screen
-New front sidemarker lamps
-NOS GMC narrow tailgate band (Impossible to find!)
-New 454 grille emblem
-New under hood insulator
-New Headlight bezels
-New Tail light Lens
-New Fan Shroud
-New Upper and Lower Grille Mouldings
-New Gas Cap
-New wheels (20x8.5 in front, 20x9.5 in rear)
-New Toyo Proxes STII Performance Truck Tires (front: P255/45/20, rear: P295/40/20)

The suspension and brake system was gone through and updated as well. Truck has stock front disc brakes and rear drums. Front brake lines were replaced, as well as rear wheel cylinders, and the master cylinder. Complete system was bled with new brake fluid. The truck has been lowered and has a killer stance. Lower 4” in the front via 2” drop springs and 2” drop spindles. Rear has been lowered 6” via a rear axle flip kit. The rear of the frame HAS NOT been C-notched or cut. The kit came with these parts, but it is not needed. There is plenty of room between the frame and axle housing. All four corners also received new Nitro 2 Drop Shocks. While the front suspension was apart, I also replaced all upper and lower ball joints, bump stops, and Outer Tie Rods Ends.

Interior:

Again, practically all new. Seat was taken to local upholstery shop and professionally recovered in black vinyl.
-New ACC loop carpet and floor mats.
-New Upper Door Panels and Armrests
-New Lower Door Panels
-New Seatbelt Assemblies
-New window crank handles
-New Door Sill Plates
-New Custom Steering Wheel
-New Sun Visors
-New Dash Cover

In sum, the truck looks great, runs great, and drives great. A lot of time and money went into restoring this truck into this condition. It is by no means a trailer show queen kind of build. It’s a great looking, head turning, driver quality show truck. It does not have A/C, never did. Truck cranks easy and sounds awesome! Truck is sold as-is and with Bill of Sale only. I will assist with your shipping company if buyer cannot pickup in person. Have 2 sets of keys and current registration. Please ask any questions you might have. I pretty much know everything there is to know about this truck. Thank you.
