1980 Honda Prelude - classic vintage survivor
1980 Honda Prelude Description
I'm selling my 1980 Honda Prelude. Originally, I bought this car for my collection because I am a big fan of older Hondas cars and felt that this car was clean enough that it was worth saving. Growing up, it was rare to see 1st generation SN-body style Honda Preludes. To find one as an adult many years later, I had to have it. :) I've owned it for about 3 years now; I've barely driven it because it usually sits inside the garage blocked in by my other cars. I AM NOT A CAR DEALER.
With some life changes happening; it is time to let it go to someone that can appreciate the rarity of a fully loaded early Honda car. Overall, I feel that this car is in pretty good overall condition for being a 36 year old car. When I do drive it, it runs smooth and it easily does 70-75 mph on the interstate without any issues. I commute about 60 miles a day including traffic and I drove it for a few days with no issues. With that being said, this car is not perfect but is one that can be driven and you don't have to feel guilty about it.
Below is the description of all the areas on the car to the best of my knowledge.
- Exterior: The car was repainted at some point and the paint is in good condition with some paint chips here and there. It is not a show winning paint job; however it presents itself well. The body is in good condition with a few dings. There are a few small areas of surface rust and there is a rust spot that is bubbling behind the passenger rear wheel well (pictured). Almost all of the trim on the vehicle is intact and there is some fading on it. Rubber trim is in good condition.
The windshield wipers are original Honda metal pieces (I used new rubber refills).
Radio antenna pulls in and out smoothly.
Headlights, taillights, license plate, reverse, and sidemarker lights all light up.
The driver side taillight does have a crack in it and I need to check the turn signal bulb as it flashes when indicating right but stays on when indicating left.
Passenger mirror glass has been replaced with some aftermarket and it's not very good.
Doors, trunk, fuel door, hood all open and close without issue.
The odometer is 6 digit (with the 7th being 1/10th mile) and it indicates 24694 miles at the time of my listing. I'm not naive to believe it only 24,694 miles. 124,694+ is much more believable.
- Interior: The interior of this car is all original except for the multi-media headunit and new speakers.
All the gauges and switches work. I believe that all of the lights for the cluster light up and this should be the same for the climate control.
The dashboard is free of cracks and the center console is complete with some signs of sun-fading. There is a pop-in blank where a previous owner had cut a switch in for reasons unknown to me.
The HVAC controls move freely. The heat blows nice and hot. The AC system is all there and was working when I bought the car. However; I think that it is low on freon and needs a recharge.
The drivers seat shows some signs of wear and the rear seat has a small tear and some splitting on the top near the back window. The carpet is decently clean with no holes. Door panels are in good condition. Windows roll up and down freely. The sunroof and sunroof shade operate as they should.
The trunk is complete with lining, cover, and spare tire.
- Engine and Mechanicals: The car starts up with no problems; I recently put in a brand new battery.
The motor idles smooth, runs quiet, free of ticks and shaking.
Temperature holds steady and the cooling fan cycles on and off as it should.
I had to replace the clutch when I first got the vehicle as well as the clutch master and slave cylinder. I replaced these with all new items. The throw-out bearing is brand new as well but it does make a little bit of noise.
The transmission is a 5-speed manual and it shifts smoothly.
The brakes work well and the car stops without any shaking.
The suspension feels good and the car does not float or act uncontrollable over bumps.
The wheels are off a later model Civic and they are straight with no bends. The tires are in good condition and I would say they are about 60% tread.
This car will be sold with a State of Georgia Bill of Sale and the car is sold AS-IS. You are responsible for transportation of this vehicle to your location. I am not shipping it.
