1985 Honda CRX with 20k Original Miles - NO RESERVE
1985 Honda CRX Description
Have a newborn son and am in process of moving cities, so I'm selling my 1985 Honda CRX with 20k original miles on it. It is the standard model, not the HF or Si. Those of you who know what you're looking at understand this car is an absolute blast to drive in spite of it's relatively modest horsepower; it actually feels quite peppy driving around town with more than enough power to scoot around or cruise at freeway speed if you so choose. I've enjoyed this car for many years, and each time I've driven it, it puts a smile on my face. It also returns ridiculously good gas mileage--35mpg+ on the freeway.
This is a very nice running and driving car that I have taken care of during my 8 years of ownership. I've recently had the carb base gasket and idle o-ring replaced by the Honda dealer and a near complete brake job performed by a trusted service shop (front pads, turned rotors, rear shoes and wheel cylinders). When I bought the car, I had the timing belt, water pump, and antifreeze changed just for good measure at Honda Bloomfield. I also changed the manual trans fluid with Genuine Honda fluid as well as the spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor myself. As you can see from the recent receipts, I've driven the car just a few hundred miles in several years; it mostly sits, and I don't have time for it any longer so it's time to sell. The oil and filter are also fresh.
Condition:
The car presents itself nicely for being a 34-year old economy car. It starts, runs, and drives very well. The 5-speed manual trans in this car is the best I've driven. Wonderfully smooth shifting action with relatively short throws. I've been trying to burn off the old gas in it, but the car gets such good mileage, I'm barely making a dent in pursuit of this goal. That said, it is surprisingly peppy and wonderfully smooth with a great sewing-machine like sound.
The interior is in excellent shape as shown in the photos with no rips, tears, cracks, etc. The seats are wonderfully comfortable, and the car has a surprising amount of room inside in spite of being so small. I'm 6'1" and have plenty of room to spare all around. The trunk area is also very clean and well maintained. I'd subjectively grade the interior a 9/10--maybe better. All gauges work and function appropriately as does the heating and ventilation (no AC).
The exterior has various blemishes associated with being 34 years old, including some scratches, dings, chips, etc. When I bought the car, I had a new front valence panel installed as the original was cracking (typical for these cars). The door hem flanges are in very nice shape as shown in the pics. The passenger side front fender has a hairline crack at the top of it that's been there since I've owned it (fenders are plastic). The driver's side rear wheel arch has some rust around the flange, but the inner wheel houses all appear very solid. I've never driven the car in the snow or rain, but just haven't found a body shop I'd trust to make the repair and it hasn't bothered me; the car looks great for being 34 years old and gets tons of looks. I've included a picture. Tires have lots of tread, but are old, and should likely be replaced. That said, they aren't flat spotted and the car drives just fine.
Since I'm in process of moving, the car will be available for view and inspection 9/7 - 9/10. You will likely need to arrange for pick up on a weekend as I'll be working in Chicago during the weekdays while the car is located in the metro Detroit area.
No stick shift joy rides. If you want to test drive, I'm coming with you. $500 non-refundable Paypal deposit due within 24 hrs of auction end. Balance of funds due within 3 days via cash, bank wire, or cashier's check. If I don't receive the deposit or balance of funds in the stated time, you forfeit winning the auction and I will relist. I will wait for my bank to confirm funds have cleared before releasing car. You're also welcome to PM me and make an offer for the car for me to end the auction early. I've made every attempt to honestly describe the condition of the car, but I'm not a mechanic, and am happy to allow you to inspect the car yourself. No warranty expressed or implied; car is sold as is. I reserve right to end auction early for any reason, including vehicle sale.
