1974 International Harvester Other Description

Original owner (Mr. Cohen) waited 6 months for this custom order to be built. Travelall 200 4x4 392 w/ T496 5spd (loadstar trans.), 12"-12spring heavy duty clutch, NP205 transfer case, Dana 60 rear, Dana 44 front, rear Trac-Loc (limited slip), 3.73 gear.(4 LO is a good crawl, i picked up rocks around the truck as it idled along on the farm)Thats right, it was custom ordered with the 5 speed transmission that was typically installed only in the Loadstar 1600,1700 dump trucks. This truck is truly built tough, and basically as tough as IH could build one, with the optioned equipment.
Runs/Drives/4x4/AC/heat/ Great, Solid. All work very well.Original radio with front and rear speaker work (like 1974).
Original IH Locking Hubs actually are Automatic as designed, so not necessary to exit vehicle and manually lock hubs to get 4x4. As mentioned in manual, manually locking hubs is only necessary here when 4x4 is preferred on down hill coasting(extreme four wheeling).
Has Front disc brakes, and rear drum as usual for this model year. New wheel cylinders in rear, new brake master cylinder.
New items: shocks, frt. spring bushings, all oil changed to SWEPCO (very good stuff-check it out), Baldwin oil filter (extensive research shows it is the best, my opinion of course), new 4000 rpm tachometer, new seals to stop minor oil leaks, repacked rear bearings, rear u-joints, custom steel Line X bumpers, wheels, tires 90%
I have new spark plugs (not the 303's we are told to stay away from) about to go in soon as my mechanic is ready,
Edelbrock square port manifold and Edelbrock 4 barrel, Mallory Elect. Ign., dual exhaust, Cobra CB, mounted Tool Box in rear.
Seats are in overall great condition, small tear at seam edge in driver bottom seat from entry, it has been repaired.Front seats were ordered and installed new from a 1973 (low back and more comfortable).Original owner installed the headrest on passenger side. Photo of headliner shows color variations, it has been wiped off and is in great shape with no sagging. All gauges work but added gauges are more accurate (oil press.)
Dual gas tanks (both work), original faulty valve replaced with tri-valve in floor near shifter.
A/C refridgerant was updated to R-134a, and works well.
Nothing missing and everything works well on this truck to the best of my knowledge. It is very solid and trustworthy driver. Speedometer was adjusted for the larger tires. Easily run 70+ all day long with this rig. Note to buyer: These engines are good for 400,000 miles at 3000 rpm as they were used on pump rigs daily. Don't rev over 3600. (I have done extensive research on these vehicles to properly care for it and will gladly offer sites and information to buyer)
Bad: only small rust near rear wheels and driver windshield as usual, no rust on hood hinges area. Small chip in windshield passenger side but not bad. Dent shown in passenger rear corner. I have improved the dent some since this photo.Minor dings and scratches in paint to be expected since 1974. I ordered matching paint and planned to buff and touchup paint to make even better. Just cant decide if it should be left alone or improved on.
The other step for driver side is in rear toolbox, easily removable
Only made about 2500 between 1973-1975. Of that, about 800 had the 392 IH engine. Has aprox 135,000mi. Included is a MT-136 parts catalog, the cts-2300 service manual on CD, and an operator's manual. The warranty policy brochure is not original to the truck. Also included is the extensive service records/receipts. I spoke to original owner and he explained to me how his engineering background/mindset allowed him to care for the vehicle so much. Nice guy and is happy the vehicle is being preserved. CThis is an unusual vehicle and gets ALOT of attention and thumbs up. Not very many out there optioned like this one. I am not wanting to sell but will let go to someone who plans to take good care of it. This truck is not driven in mud or salt. It is too unusual and a tribute to the IH heritage and contributors.
If you are looking for a Travelall, '73-'74 is arguably the best year made due to front disc brakes, early ABS, lock-o-matic front hubs, and a few more.
I have done my best to describe the truck with detail, im sure i have left out something. Let me know if you have ? Thanks. Mark.
