1960 IH B100 1/2 ton pickup, V-8, power steering, power brakes
1960 International Harvester B100 Description
1960 International-Harvester B100 1/2 ton pickup with 266 cubic inch V-8, 3 on the tree, power steering and power brakes.
I have owned this truck for several years and have decided to sell. It is mechanically sound and runs, shifts and stops as it should. Fully road legal and ready to go.
Here is what is NOT original: - Tires, which are Goodyear Wranglers that have less than 500 miles on them (including a spare in the bed).- Distributor guts, which were replaced with a Pertronix electronic conversion.- Original starter and generator removed and rebuilt by local shop.- Original Treadle Vac brake unit removed and rebuilt by Power Brake X-Change in Pittsburgh.- Shock absorbers.- Normal service items.
Here is what does NOT work:- Wiper motor. It did not like the recent safety inspection where they worked just a few times before quitting. Travelallparts.com will rebuild it for you for around $350 or you can find a used one.- Coolant temperature gauge. It just quit, also. I'll find and replace the sender if I can but can't guarantee I can fix the actual gauge if that's what is wrong.- Cigarette lighter. Carry a Zippo.
Here is what MOSTLY works:- Reverse light switch, which is the red/white knob on the left of the dash. It works if you hold your tongue right.- Fuel gauge is pretty darn accurate. Fill up when it's on 1 dot.- Horn honks but is better if the revs are up. - Vent windows are hard to pivot so I don't bother.- Speedo bounces a lot. Average the numbers out and it's pretty close. You won't speed much or spend lots of time on the interstate anyway.
Here is what was REPLACED during my ownership:- From IH Only North (now IH Parts America) I got a new Borg & Beck 11" clutch and had the flywheel resurfaced. New water pump. Oil pressure sender. Pertronix conversion kit and matching coil. $840 worth of parts.- Parts from other sources include new brake hoses, brake shoes and hardware, wheel cylinders, shocks, fuel pump, u-joints, valve cover gaskets. All installed by my trusted local mechanic. Rearend serviced and all fluids replaced. $1800 cost excluding parts.- Original carb rebuilt.
The BODY has perfect original paint as you can see from the photos. If you don't get that joke, I'm truly sorry. It has a crease in one fender and what looks like damage from a barbed wire fence on the driver door. It has only one spot where it has rusted completely through and that is on the body, under the lower left corner of the tailgate down behind the rear bumper. See the last photo. Everything else is surface rust only. No signs of a wreck or repair. The FRAME is straight and rust free.
The CHROME and TRIM is all present and in good shape. The grill is in especially good shape compared to others I have seen.
The GLASS appears to be all original and is all there. It has a crack in the windshield at the upper driver side about 10" long. It has not grown in all the time I've had it. Weatherstrips all around are pretty poor but I have never seen a leak inside. The windows go up and down with a little manual help.
The ENGINE runs great and starts on the first turn of the key. The lifters tick but you get used to it. The TRANSMISSION shifts perfect. The BRAKES work fine but you have to rearrange your brain to compensate for the primitive booster and 4 wheel drums.
The INTERIOR is...the interior. The sun visors are shot but I saved one if you want to make a pattern. I cannot locate any sound deadening material (or carpet). There doesn't seem to be an air conditioner, touch screen navigation or cup holders, either. The fan/heater works. The seat has obviously been recovered and is overstuffed. Maybe the guy was really short? It's very comfy though. What appears to be the original jack and associated tools are under the seat in the storage area.
