International Scout II 36,000 original miles. 2nd Owner. Fresh restoration
1979 International Harvester Scout Scout II Description
1979 Scout II- I purchased this Scout a few years ago from the original owners. The vehicle was only driven 5,000 the first 15 years. When the father passed away the daughter freshened it up with a new paint job. She drove it another 28,000+ miles and decided to sell it. I was not happywith the refresh from the late 90's and decided to give the Scout aframe on, glass out, restoration. All of the glass was removed from the windshield and top and all of the seals were replaced. The paint is literally perfect. The top was removed for painting. The original numbers matching 304 engine pulls strong (as you would expect for a motor with 36,000 miles). The exhaust has been replaced with full stainless. The side trim was polished out to perfection and the original luggage rack was re-chromed. All of the carpet was replaced to go back to the original interior color. I added a modest 2 inch lift with new springs and shocks to give it just that right stance. The truck originally came with hub caps but I decided to go with original Scout wheels that have been powder coated.
Everything on this Scout works, including the original radio. I have all the records dating to new, includingtheoriginal window sticker, line ticket, and all maintenance records. The tires are brand new. I keep the Scout on a battery tender and it starts every time. Truck has been stored in a heated garage since the restoration.
I've had a few questions regarding any issues. Here is the complete list: there is a slight tear in the bottom corner of the driver's side door panel. The panels are original so I decided not to replace them. Thereis a slight oil leak. It leaves it's mark on my garage floor. The motor does not burn oil. I was planning on pulling the engine and giving it a fresh coat of paint but decided to leave it as original. There is a slight pull to the right on hard braking. I suspect the front caliper is sticking. This issue will be repaired prior to deliver or I will credit buyer. The bumpers were re-chromed several years ago. I would classify them as very good but not concours condition.
