1963 International Harvester 1000C -- Description
1963 International C1000 Pickup North Dakota Truck Long Term Ownership Original 266cid V8 / 3spd Manual Short Bed Vin # C1000SB318081A Evolve Motors and Chicago Car Club are pleased to present this 1963 International C1000 V8 Short Bed! We love buying cars from the Dakotas; it’s so dry that many of these older vehicles really only age from a cosmetic standpoint, by way of paint fade, but underneath they remain nice and solid. We’re always amazed by the minimal rust on these Middle-America-sourced cars. This truck has spent its entire life way out in North Dakota under what we believe to have been original ownership. The transporter who picked the truck up told us that the elderly owner had such a tough time saying goodbye to the truck that he followed the car-carrier for nearly thirty miles before finally letting it go and turning around. We don’t blame him for struggling to let it go, it’s a great looking V-8 short bed with a ton of character. It’s such a quintessential old-school farm truck, which we love. Exterior: Please take a good look through the photos, as the truck is documented in detail. Red paint (an old respray of the original red) is faded and peeling/cracking in a number of areas. We’ll call it “patina”. There is some light surface rust on the rear hatch. Bed, which measures 85” by 66”, is in nice shape, with no through rust. There are a couple spots where it looks like there may have been a rust repair that was sprayed over with red paint. Body is in really nice shape, with no dents or damage other than paint cracking. Glass is all clear and crack-free. Lower front fog lights are cracked. Wheels are in good shape, chrome centers are free of any damage but do show surface rust. Interior: Bench seat wears a dark brown leather cover. All powered systems are functional. Radio, fan, and all gauges are in good working order. Dash presents nicely, with just a bit of typical wear. Windows are roll ups and track nicely. Original steering wheel is free of any peeling or cracks. Under the Hood / Underbody: This car still retains its original engine, the optional 4.4L 266cid 2bbl V-8, and Holley 2300 carb. The V-8 was the more-desirable of the available engines at the time, as opposed to the 240cid 6-cylinder option. Odometer reads 30,286, true mileage is unknown. Underneath, the truck looks quite good. There’s obviously some surface rust, but nothing of any structural concern at all. Floors and frame rails are in very nice shape. On the road, the truck feels good. Clutch feels good (though there’s a tiny bit of chatter in first) and it runs through the gears smoothly, with no grinding or hesitation. It tracks straight both under acceleration and braking. Idle is low and steady, and the truck keeps nice and cool. Suspension is forgiving, and handles speedbumps without any noises or tendencies of concern. Tires, while not too worn or dry rotted, are older and should be replaced sooner rather than later. Overall, this is a seriously cool truck that exemplifies exactly what we’d want from an old International Harvester, a worn, utility look with a nice, reliable, original V-8 drivetrain.
