1970 International Harvester Other Custom Description

For sale is a RARE International Harvester Shortbed Pickup. This is a 1000 D series truck, which means it came from the factory with independent torsion bar front suspension. This is the PERFECT model to easily turn into a street rod, unlike the 1100 & 1200 series which had solid I-beam axle and leaf spring front ends. This truck rides like a cadillac, and if you want you can easily lower it.
This truck is a rare CUSTOM model. If you're familiar with International's, you know that the CUSTOM trim package was only available on the "bonus load" (a.k.a.fleetside) bed pickups.
I have included two pictures from my vintage 1970 International sales brochure. You'll see a picture of what my truck would've looked like NEW in 1970. The originalgreen paint, faux wood grain side panels are still here, which proves what model this truly is. This beautiful vintage brochure will be includedwith the sale of this truck. I also have the original owners manual, which will also go with the truck to the buyer.
Also included is a tool box with lots of extra parts. See picture.
It looks like someone years ago did a crummy respray, but you can still see the original green paint on the truck from 1970. Besides the custom exterior trim, it is equipped with FACTORY A/C, power brakes and power steering! The A/C is not connected but the unit is in the truck. The engine is a 345 V-8 with a 3-Speed Automatic Transmission. It also has the IH original radio as well, but its not connected. It even has factory retractable seat belts!
It is a California truck and the body is very straight and rust free for its age. I bought it on a family farm in the Central Valley of California. It has a clean title, and is currently registered. As with all unrestored trucks this age, it runs good but its not perfect...the power steering gearbox leaks. The odometer says 28,453 but with a truck this old its rolled to 128,453 (on my title the odometer reading states 128,028). All the gauges and lights work. I have replaced the carburetor, installed an electronic ignition system in the distributor and replaced the ignition switch with a NOS one. A few years ago I had the radiator redone too, installed a rebuilt power brake unit, and new shocks and tires.I also dropped/removed the gas tank and had it professionally cleaned out and installed a new sending unit.
I only drive it around on weekends.
The original hood was damaged, so I replaced it with a good one. The front valance has also been replaced for one that was in better shape and not dinged up. I bought this truck 7 years ago and planned on restoring it, but with a heavy heart I've decided to sell it now.
This truck is a unicorn! You will NEVER find another fully-optioned early-70's IH 1000 D series CUSTOM shortbed like this! This truck is really, really, really RARE...most IH pickups still alive have 8 foot beds, or if they areshort-bedsthen they are the 1100/1110 -1200/1210 series which DON'T have FACTORY INSTALLED torsion bar suspension like mine.
So instead of restoring a Ford or Chevy shortbed as your next street rod, go for this and truly be the only person around with a unique International Harvester shortbed truck!
