1977 International Harvester Scout Description

You are bidding on a solid 1977 International Scout Traveler, 118" wheel base. This truck came out of Arkansas, and was used as a rural mail carrier's truck- the US Mail lettering is still visible on the back hatch glass. As a result of the truck being driven from the passenger side for mail delivery, the passenger side floor is rusted from the top down. A new floor pan comes with the truck, and the body mounts, floor braces and rocker panels are all in good solid condition. The Scout was originally a Midas model, however due to being parked for many years the Midas seats etc. were trashed due to being rodent chewed, along with the carpet. The Midas headliner is still there, and the truck only has one seat for the driver at this time. Please check out the photos, with no carpet you can see the condition of the floors, as well as photos taken underneath of the body mounts and undercarriage.
The Scout has the 345 V-8 engine with a two barrel carburetor. The carburetor has been rebuilt, and the fuel tank dropped and cleaned due to sitting so long with bad gas in it, it now starts and runs well. The engine runs well with no knocks or ticks. The ignition has been upgraded to an HEI type conversion using a write up on the Binder Planet, this helps with starting and running quite a bit. Transmission is stock automatic, it engages and moves forward and back like it should, but due to soft brakes it has not been driven on the road. Four wheel drive transfer case works as it should. The truck has dual exhaust, it's all there and not noisy but it's unknown how long it will last after sitting for so long.
The Scout's outer body is in good solid shape, other than the driver's side rear quarter panel. It has rust low behind the door, and around the wheel well. The passenger's side quarter panel is fine, however I bought a set of used fiberglass quarter panels for this truck that will go with it so that it can be made to look great. Both doors, front fenders, hood, and rocker panels are solid. Floors are solid other than the passenger side as noted above, and a couple of small miscellaneous rust holes on the transmission tunnel and two at the very rear of the cargo area, most are shown in photos.
All in all, this is a very solid Scout, especially for our area of the country. It has not been in road salt, so the body is exceptionally better than most you'll find around here. That said, this is a PROJECT. No, you can't drive it home, no it's not a daily driver the way it sits, it needs some TLC but way less than most Scouts I've seen. I've owned and worked on Scouts for the last 18 years, and I bought this one to fix up for my wife, however she decided she really wanted a Scout II (shorter wheelbase) with a Terra top instead of a full size Terra like this would have been, so I bought her one. My loss your gain, you will be happy with this truck! It will start and run and drive on to your trailer with no problems, and it will start and unload when it gets to your house. I make no warrantees about this Scout; I have disclosed everything I know about it that is negative, which really isn't much, but since I haven't driven it or done much with it, I can't know everything. Feel free to ask any questions, if the buyer is fairly local (under 100 miles) I may be able to deliver on my trailer for $2.00 a loaded mile, otherwise shipping is your responsibility. I expect a $500 deposit via Paypal within 24 hours of auction end unless you plan to pick it up by then; it can stay here for 30 days until you arrange pickup or shipping if needed. If you think you might want me to move ti for you (remember, LOCAL only, less than 100 miles) PLEASE contact me BEFORE the auction ends to talk about it. Thanks for looking, and good luck bidding!
