1974 International Harvester Scout Description

1974 International Harvester Scout II 4x4345 V8, Automatic Transmission.Currently not running but engine turns over, not seized, coolant pressure test shows no leaks, it rolls. New (used) wheels replaced old set it had been sitting on all those years. Good rubber and rims.Vintage bull bar, rear tow ball, probably installed by rancher.
**The tiger stripe appearance in the photos is from the car cover buffeting in the wind the past 18 months, against the oxidized paint and buffed those lines clean, not from dents**

Nowadays every old car that's been sitting for a few years is called a barn find. This is an actual Texas barn find dragged out of a ranch property barn when a new owner acquired the land. I included some photos of it at the time it was discovered. Looks like it was used as a ranch vehicle and resprayed green (over original yellow paint) many many years ago. While there's no such thing as a rust free Scout, this is a good find for a Scout. And it's got the best mechanical options you'd want for the beginning of your Scout rehab- the largest V8, the IH V8s were known for their reliability and torque. Power steering, front disk brakes, Auto trans and 4x4.
Straight body, expected dings and wear from a ranch vehicle. solid floorboards, frame is solid. While undercarriage has surface rust and some low body panels, the rear cargo area floor is only location I see rusted heavily, has little holes through rear cargo area sheet metal, apparently from the dried up roof seals allowed water in when it was parked and the moisture was trapped under the original rubber mat and fiber pad in the cargo area which I've removed so it could dry out. I've seen OEM replacement cargo bay panels for $350 online. You would be hard pressed to find a nicer project Scout II than this one. Was in the barn for years, an oil change sticker in the window showed the year 2002, and the last Texas registration sticker on the windshield is January 2002. It's been sitting 16+ years and appears to have housed a few rodents during that time, will need some new wiring. I had the rancher tear out the original carpets so that I could see photos of the floorboards before buying the vehicle, and ran the magnet test over the body to ensure it didn't look so clean because it was full of body filler. It's the real deal, a very solid southern Scout.
Doesn't appear to have ever had the top off. Original removable steel top. original spare tire in back. All glass is intact and good condition. I removed all the DIY window tint that was baked on the windows when it was pulled from the barn (you're welcome).
I have new OEM side mirrors and a new rubber OEM floor mat made with the orignial IH factory mold that I'll throw in, the OEM floor mat alone cost $250 fromhttps://ihscout.com/product/front-floor-mat-black-factory-oem-scout-ii/
Odometer shows 84,268 miles. Has clear Texas title and I have the title in-hand.
Appears to have had a newer fuel pump, gas tank and starter installed at some point in time, before it was parked in the barn.
My son is headed off to college this fall, I have to liquidate some projects and empty the garage to help cover his tuition. This is happening to me, never thought I'd be the guy, I'm usually buying other folks projects in this situation. This is the last item I have to sell because I was hoping to hold onto it, but it has to go. I've been using all my free time restoring a military HMMWV so didn'tget a chance to give the Scout much love yet, it's your opportunity to work on a relativelyunmolested Scout in nearly found condition as it was 16+ years ago.

By 'the engine turning over and not seaized' I mean the engin's not frozen, if it started then I'd be selling a running scout ;-) And this was performed after doing the Sea Foam treatmentin each cylinder, to let it soak several days, siphoning out the sea foam then using a battery and using the car's starter to turn it over, to safely test it, so it's not seized. Needs wiring from hot dry weather and rodents and probably carb clean, timing and tune.
In addition to the OEM rubber floor mat made from original IH moldand the two new side mirrors, also comes with 2 original door panels, best stock versions I was able to find online, cost a pretty penny, including with the purchase.
I have original antenna, just removed it so that I could put the car cover on, it's always under the cover and never the weather even though it's not in a texas bar any longer. I'll include the car cover with sale, it's a breathable material, good quality.
5 NEW VIDEOS POSTED BY REQUEST in HD! ALSO A LINK TO A NEW GOOGLE PHOTO LIBRARY WITH TONS OF NEW PHOTOS ( I exceeded Ebay's max pic count) Video close up details of all the underbelly stuff you requested - rocker panels, frame, underbody, floor boards, body, cargo bed, lift gate...etc.
