International stated it could produce 1,000 different types of truck configurations from its 21-model lineup and International at the time was the largest producer of medium and heavy trucks! The line-duty Internationals were especially popular with farmers, who already owned many pieces of International farm equipment and tractors. This particular International truck was use as a ice truck and bought by Garrison Construction Company from the estate of James Wilkinson and has been restored around 2009. Mr. Wilkinson used the truck to haul large blocks of ice from manufacturers in Campbellsville, Bowling Green and Somerset, Kentucky to bring to the cooler of his Crystal Ice Company on N. High Street in Columbia, Kentucky, where he would retail it in smaller blocks or sell it as crushed ice. Finished in Adirondack Green (code 10) over black wings, the truck’s exterior is overall very good order. The truck’s bodywork is straight, along with its split pop-out windshield, dual windshield wipers, IH glass cab lights and IH door mirrors. The engine bay is tidy and the Blue Diamond engine looks like a serious work horse. The black front bumper comes with a matching bumper skirt and that spacious wooden flatbed with side stakes look great and has a spare tire. There are aftermarket taillights, rear mounted Griffin STOP lamp, front turn signals and factory IH mudflaps grace the rear. This classic Binder rolls on six Super Cargo tires, size 8.25-20 at all four corners, including the spare. The tires are older and show age, while the contrasting red, vented iron wheels are in very good condition. This truck rolls on a 176-inch wheelbase and a GVWR between 14,500-18,800. The front axle is a drop-center, I-beam, steel drop forging; heat-treated, reverse Elliott type. Steering knuckles of drop-forged, heat- treated, chrome-molybdenum steel. The rear axle is a full-floating, spiral-bevel, gear-drive type. Hotchkiss- type final drive. Chrome - molybdenum steel drive shafts. One-piece, forged-steel, heat-treated, tubular axle housing. Differential and wheel bearings are tapered rollers. The heavy-duty K6 and larger trucks use a center hinged butterfly hood rather than the rear hinged hood of the smaller trucks. Under that center-hinged hood is International’s Blue Diamond 250 CID straight six-cylinder engine, that retains its blue block and head and has a six-volt electrical system. The engine is bolted to a heavy duty four-speed manual transmission.Inside, the truck’s black bench seat is in great shape with contrasting Adirondack Green trim and instrument panel with a full array of ancillary gauges. The floor mats, headliner and three-spoke steering wheel are all in good, original order. The inner door liners match the same green as the dashboard. A handle near the windshield controls the tilt-out feature for the glass panels. The horn and wipers are inoperable and a factory IH under-the-dash heater is present. These heavy-duty Internationals are even harder to find than their light-duty counterparts.
