1978 International Harvester Scout II
1978 International Harvester Scout Description
I started rebuilding this Scout to be the ultimate rock crawler several years ago. I had the frame sandblasted and painted with POR15. The body was sandblasted and the undercarriage covered in por15. I had a local shop do custom bumpers and roll cage. I replaced all parts as it came back together. It has a new wiring harness, new polyurethane body mounts, new carpet, new gauges, and of course body work and paint. The Scout is a diesel. The motor is a Mercedes 617. It is adapted to a 32 spline SM465 GM 4 speed transmission. The transfer case is 203/205 with an adapter from Northwest Fab. The transfer case is triple sticked for lots of off-road options. The axles are Dana 44's with lockers and 4.88 gears. The rear axle has a Detroit locker, and the front axle has a selectable Ox Locker. The rims are custom beadlocks from OMF with BFG 35" Mud Terrain tires. The truck has an aftermarket Kenwood stereo with amplifier and subwoofer. The Scout is drivable but still needs some work. After many years I have lost the desire to work on it and hope someone will finish it and go enjoy the rocks. I have invested lots of hours and countless dollars. Buy this Scout and enjoy!
