Sir William Lyons and Malcolm Saylor’s design of the Jaguar XKE has been noted by many as one of the most beautiful vehicle designs ever produced, including acknowledgement by the Museum of Modern Art as a permanent showpiece in their collection since 1996. It was even said rival, Enzo Ferrari, had to admit his own admiration of the E-Type at the Geneva Auto Show in 1961 when first introduced. This original Series I had refinements throughout its production that included a larger 4.2L displacement engine in 1965 providing additional torque along with a full synchromesh gearbox for the first time. A better braking system along with a negative ground alternator charging system further improved overall reliability. The final year for the Series I would come in 1967 due to governmental regulations forcing new design changes. For though seeking the ultimate culmination of the E-Type featuring covered headlamps, triple carburetion, small mouth oval grill opening, synchromesh transmission, better rear axle ratio, while retaining the signal & taillights above the bumpers, than this opportunity should not be missed!

This example hails from a California where it was completely restored in nut & bolt fashion, completed in 2008. The body and paint work were professionally executed by Scott Bachum, while all mechanicals were done by Laguna Beach based Barnhoorn Automotive. The interior and top by K&H Interiors located in Garden Grove, CA. The results are nothing short of excellent, and only a short test is needed to enjoy the raw speed and power of a well-tuned E-Type like this one! The instant acceleration pushes you against the seat and provides consistent power through the entire rev range! Enjoyable would be an understatement! Our example has a few enhancements to better enjoy as a very drivable show car. This includes a stainless steel exhaust header & exhaust system, updated electric cooling fans, Pertronix electronic ignition, stainless steel brake calibers & braided lines. It has traveled just shy of 3,500 miles since completion to allow for any necessary post-restoration adjustments to be addressed. It has been in the care of a local St. Louis business professional & car collector since mid-year 2010. Also included with the sale will be a restoration receipts & service records, new driver’s handbook, Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, workshop manual, maintenance diagram, and a CoverCraft fitted storage cover.
