1988 Jaguar XJS Base Coupe 2-Door 5.3L
1988 Jaguar XJS Description
We've owned this car for about 20 years and it has always been garage kept and was kept immaculate. With kids, we've used it less and less and it has just been more in the way.
It has been a beautiful and generally reliable car with minor exceptions including the most recent being that it had an engine fire making the car undrivable and needing at the very least engine compartment rewiring. It always had a hiccup when initially driving it when cold and I was moving it around last fall and it had several, then a big bang and then flames out from under the hood. I was able to put it out faily quickly, but the insulation under the hood was burned, and a full burn through on one of the belts. I have not tried to start it and have left the battery disconnected since this happened. I just assumed that this has become at the very least a pull the engine level of repair that I will not do.
As far as condition, there is no paint damage from the fire incident and the interior was unfazed with no odor. There are several things that are not perfect both on the interior and exterior.
Interior - The headliner was replace several years back and it is not perfect, I have the dome light, but it is out and I was going to do an LED conversion. I have had issues with the drivers window and went round and round with different regulators. What I have in now I'm pretty sure is correct and seems to work and then the passenger one quit. I think switch. Also there are other not working items, Had the cruize control working, then it stopped, and now the bellows is burned. The lumbar pump and heated seats are not working, but I also think this are fuse or switch issues and I have not had the motivation to iron them out.
Exterior - At some point this had some repaint, the pinstrip on the side has been lightly painted over and there is slight waviness when looking down both sides. It always cleaned up very nice and was truly a beautiful car. The roof and trunk lid had noticable drag as compaired to hood but some clay bar, polish and wax and it came close - age issue. The bad, there has always been a rust bubble behind the drivers front wheel and a couple of years back I put the worst door ding into the passenger side door. Then in the same year, I was moving a pontoon boat and rubbed against the passenger headlight bezel, scuffing the chrome and paint... All in all the body still looks good, and would be a very good starting point for a repaint.
