1971 Jaguar 4.2 Litre E-type Convertible - Primrose / Black - believed 51,000 miles - complete ownership history and numbers matching
This beautiful '71 Jag E-type convertible has a complete ownership history and extensive Jaguar documentation for the numbers-matching engine, carbs and drivetrain. This is an opportunity to acquire a complete car that has not been taken apart or built up from parts and pieces of other Jaguar cars.
The iconic Jaguar XKE (also known as the E-type) is arguably the most beautiful car ever designed. This example is a Series II left-hand drive USA model with a 4.2L inline-six engine and twin Stromberg carburetors for the US market. The car's matching-numbers drive train is verified with paperwork from Jaguar Heritage Ltd.
The vehicle was originally purchased by its first owner on 02/20/1971 from Butler Motors in Indianapolis. The car remained with its original owner for 44 years until it was acquired locally in Indianapolis in 2015 by a friend of mine and refreshed. I acquired it right after the refresh was completed from my friend so the car has remained in Indy since it was sold in 1971, and its complete ownership history is known.
Please note: The odometer does not reflect actual miles and currently reads 11,260. Exact actual mileage is unknown. In 1991 is was documented by the original owner to have 46,000 miles, and the original owner stated that the car was rarely driven during the last years of his ownership. I believe the mileage to be about 51,000.
Overall, this is a solid, documented car and would make for a great addition to any collection. The car drives, steers, shifts and accelerates smoothly without rattles, and the engine pulls effortlessly through the gears. The suspension, wheels and tire package along with the small size makes tossing the car into corners as much fun now as it was 47 years ago. This is a gorgeous Jaguar and one that is ready to be driven!
