Outstanding recent mechanical restoration to a worthy Fixed Head Coupe! a Series I 3.8L Tri-carb DOHC Inline 6 cylinder with 4-speed gearbox! Cosmetic restoration completed in mid-1990's in classic color combination of English White over Red Leather! Only 496 miles on the restored drivetrain! Very sharp driver!! The XKE series Jaguar was an instant success from the moment it appeared at the automotive seen in 1961! Featuring monocoque construction, 4-wheel independent suspension & disc brakes, and rack &... pinion steering. As each new generation was improved from the last, it continued to offer more and more to buyers as the prestigious luxury sports car from England! This included improved brakes, better suspension, superior interior comfort, more significant cooling, and bigger displacement engines! The Series II came about in 1968 with wrap around rear bumper, larger repositioned turn signals & tail lights, larger grill opening with twin electric cooling fans for better cooling, open headlamps, redesigned toggle switches on the dash, as well as twin Strombergs replacing the triple SUs under the hood. Production on the Series II carried through to early 1971 with all models totaling 18,809 units. Of those, only 4,855 were Fixed Head Coupes making them the rarest to find for collectors today! Not all cars are born to survive the same way. Any classic car guy can likely share stories of a car they know of parked in a garage awaiting resurrection, but just cant get the owner to part ways with it, for usual reasons of nostalgia or sentimental attachment. Regardless of condition, these wonderful opportunities continue to exist today. In the case of this 1969 Jaguar E-Type Fixed Head Coupe, it was left as an abandoned project for Mariella Horna to deal with in her garage in 1991. With the help of Stonehenge Jaguar LTD, they helped place her rust free coupe to an eager owner ready to facilitate the deserving restoration it required. The new owner had sincere intentions of building a show winner, so he utilized the services of Mark Besser at Showcase Restorations, Tims Automotive Service, along with Stonehenge LTD and others to fully restore this worthy example to operational condition once again! With a methodical effort, everything was professionally sourced to build a truly splendid Jaguar road car. All new classic Old English White was selected to refinish the exterior, along with a stunning all red leather interior. The original engine was missing, so an earlier Series I 3.8L DOHC Inline 6 with triple SU HD8s was selected using a cylinder head by Apex Racing and a rebuilt 4-speed transmission. Finished in the summer of 1993, and enjoyed for approximately 310 miles, it stayed with the same owner for another 20 years! It would be reconditioned in June 2013 after resting again for many years to include an all new clutch kit with clutch slave & master cylinders; all new fluids for the engine, cooling system, brake system; engine oil filter & air filter, coolant hoses, spark plugs, new alternator & battery, complete fuel flush with boiled fuel tank & new sending unit. All new interior dash knobs & switches were replaced for good measure. At a cost of nearly $11,300 in June 2013, it was road ready once again and enjoyed just sparingly before finding a new home in March 2016 with 340 miles on the odometer. The new Merrick, NY owner would equally cherish this special Jaguar with a full, comprehensive service after purchase. He would immediately continue the reconditioning effort with a rebuilt head with new intake valves, fresh head gasket, new fuel pump, new fuel lines & filters, professional overhaul of all three carburetors with new jets & floats, intake gaskets, new front brake calipers & pads, turned rotors, front steering boots, front end alignment, new starter, engine freeze plugs, battery, alternator belt, and complete ignition tune with new distributor cap & rotor! This owner would drive and enjoy this Coupe sparingly adding limited mileage annually, and continuing the annual service with the addition of a Pertronix electronic ignition system in September 2016 with new plug wires, along with new wiper motor. All new Vredstein tires and tubes were installed in August 2017 along with brake fluid flush, coolant flush, carburetor clean & tune, and fresh air filters. Today, the odometer reads just 496 miles. Options include telescoping steering column, Triplex XXX glass, Sparkomatic AM/FM radio, Furstil floor mats, stainless steel exhaust system, and wood steering wheel! We feel this exceptional Jaguar has only been hindered by the driving season where it has been owned, leaving limited opportunities to truly enjoy the money spent to bring it to this level of mechanical soundness! It deserves a new owner ready to take advantage of the past expense and drive it as often as possible! Feel free to call with additional questions or set up a chance to review in person! It will not last long!
