1990 Jaguar XJ6 Description

I bought the car from a very small exclusive licensed cardealer in New Jersey who was friendly with the original owner, which I confirmed at the time. (The dealer actually titled the car in the dealership name, and shows as the second owner, that's how much he liked it. I almost had to arm wrestle it away from him, but he was much younger, so I used economic muscle instead) The original owners each had company cars and drove this Jag very occasionally for sheer enjoyment.

It is a classic Jaguar sedan with only 26,000 original miles. It is a big cat that purrs like a good cat should. Like all cats, it avoids the rain and snow. Never seen winter, salt or even rain unless it started when I was out for a Sunday drive along the lake. No rust ever. I bought it in 2015 with about 17,500 miles on it, and drive it perhaps two thousand miles a year, nice weather in the summers only (rare indeed in Rochester.)

It has all of Jaguar's smoothness, performance, and luxury. It has been properly maintained throughout its life. It is in mechanically and cosmetically amazing condition of its age, or for any age of any car with 26,000 miles. This ultra-low mileage car is a garage-kept cherished hobby and occasional driver. The chrome around the windows looks amazing; and the factory wheels are elegant and in very nice condition (one wheel has a blemish, but the full-size spare wheel is excellent.) This was the first year for the rectangular headlights and they give the car an exclusive vibe.

1990 was the first year of the engine upgrade to all-aluminum multi-valve 4.0-liter engine. This fuel-injected motor is legendary for smooth progressive power delivery. The four-speed automatic overdrive transmission works with the J-gate shifter. It is equipped with a fully independent suspension and four-wheel disc brakes with superb handling.

The exterior and interior colors are listed in Jaguar catalogs as Savile Grey (I am gray-green colorblind, so it is hard for me to describe). The leather interior is in excellent condition. The wood is in very good condition and shows virtually no wear. It is equipped with a power sunroof, power seats, power steering, remote power locks, cruise control, set and forget climate control, an original equipment on-board driver operated diagnostic computer, Jaguar alarm system, and a digital readout center that goes along with the analog speedometer and tachometer. I have all the Jaguar owner's manuals. I have added a Pioneer Stereo with Smart Sync and blue tooth. I upgraded the air-conditioning to the easily serviceable R134a.

When you look this model XJ6 up you will see it is also referred to as the factory designation of "XJ40" although it was never sold in this country by that designation. When I was in England several years ago, I learned that Jaguars are as common there as Buicks are here (at least were) and parts are readily available for them world-wide.

In some spots the headliner is not tightly held to its backing. It is neither serious nor extensive. It does not hang down. My local shop tells me that it is not unusual and can repair it. I never notice it,because I don't spend my time looking for it.If you desire, at your expense I can have the shop replace it.

This is a fine, very well-maintained car. I am selling it because the two of us have five cars between us, and we are paring down our possessions in advance of a permanent move south. Rather rashly, Cathy says four cars are plenty for two people. Please remember this is an almost 30-year-old car, not new, but remarkable for its age. It is sold "no warranty, as-is, where is.”
