1971 Jaguar XJ6 Description
This 1971 Jaguar XJ6 is a European-spec example that was sold new to an American stationed in Germany and later imported by its original owner to Michigan, where it remained until the seller’s acquisition earlier this year. The car is finished in blue over tan leather and powered by a replacement 4.2-liter inline-six mated to a three-speed automatic transmission. Service under previous ownership is said to have included replacing the gas tanks and fuel pumps as well as converting the ignition system to an electronic setup. The fluids have been changed by the seller.This XJ6 is now offered at no reserve with the original purchase paperwork, factory literature, an owner’s manual, a tool kit, some service records, spare parts, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.The exterior was refinished from the prior silver to blue under previous ownership, and features of the Euro-spec cars include larger headlamps and Lucas foglights.The seller notes that the bottom sills and the front fenders have been replaced and that rust is present on the lower trunk lid.Stock 15″ wheels wear Nexen N’Priz AH5 tires on the front and Dunlop SP50 rubber in back, each measuring 205/70.Under previous ownership the brake master cylinder was reportedly replaced along with the steering rack, and the seller has flushed the brake and power-steering fluids. The handbrake is inoperable, with repair parts included in the sale.The cabin is finished in tan leather with beige carpets and door panels, and burl walnut is featured on the dash. The driver’s seat is said to be in need of replacement, as shown in the photo gallery below, and rust is noted in the driver and passenger footwells as well as on the right-rear upper doorsill.Factory instrumentation includes a 220-km/h speedometer and a 5,500-rpm tachometer.The five-digit odometer shows 85k kilometers (~53k miles), of which the seller has added about 100. True mileage is unknown.The 4.2-liter DOHC inline-six was replaced under previous ownership, with the Euro-spec intake manifold and twin SU carburetors with manual choke transferred to the replacement engine.The seller reportedly performed a coolant flush and an engine oil and filter change. Under previous ownership, the fuel tanks, fuel pumps, coolant expansion tank, and hoses were replaced, along with converting the points/condenser ignition to an electronic setup. New engine mounts, center driveshaft, and the factory automatic-choke enrichment parts are included in the sale. Results of a compression test can be seen in the gallery and range between approximately 115 psi and 135 psi.Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed Borg-Warner Model 12 automatic transmission. The seller notes that the passenger-side over-axle exhaust pipe needs replacing, and a new piece is included in the sale.Service records dating back to 2008 are included, as is factory literature and original purchase documents, a tool kit, and assorted spare parts.
