I am selling my 1987 Jaguar XJ6 sunroof sedan. I purchased the car last fall from a friend. He purchased the car in the early 1993. He was the second owner. It was driven regularly until the late ’90’s. He chose not to sell it for sentimental reasons and it sat in his garage for the next 21 years without being driven. It had no mechanical problems when it was parked. It has always been garaged. He made the decision to sell as they needed the garage space. I purchased it “as is” not running. I changed the oil and filter then lubed the cylinders. Unfortunately the engine was stuck from sitting. I was still optimistic it cold be freed. I filled each cylinder with a mix of Marvel Mystery Oil and Techron. This combination had been successful for me several times through the decades. After a couple of weeks I removed the fan and fan shroud and placed a socket on the crank pulley and with a half inch breaker bar. No luck breaking it loose. In addition, I did drain the gas tanks and the gas was surprisingly clear and did not smell bad. There was no rust in the fuel. I unbolted the starter to confirm it was not jammed. After 5 months it is still stuck and I’m ready to move the project on. I have not placed the parts back on the car but they are all there including hardware. Starter is still unbolted. If you know a simple fix that is unique to these cars, I'll be happy for you. It would be nice to see the car back on the road.
The odometer is at 145,994. I believe that to be original. The car is remarkably clean. The car was driven until the day it was parked over 20 years ago.
Body
I am not an expert so I have taken many photos. There has been no crash damage. Original factory stickers are still on the panels. The paintwork is original and still has a nice shine even though I have not polished it. There are a few scratches, scuffs and chips. The panel gaps are consistent with the factory standards. The panels are straight. The floors and rockers are original. There are a few rust bubbles on the rear lower areas of the front fenders. The rear wheel arches have some rust as seen. The right side has more that the left. The floor pans are solid with no significant rust.
Drivetrain
Straight 6. Clean but stuck. Automatic. Fresh oil and filter. Not much more to say. I believe the after market wire wheels are Dayton. One is damaged and has broken spokes.
Interior
The interior is original as seen in the photos. Tan leather with some expected wear. No rips or tears. The rear seats have minimal wear. It is remarkably clean. Gauges are nice. Dash has not cracked. The burl veneer is nice. There is some delamination on the flat part of the console by the shifter.
General
This is a tough and disappointing situation. It’s a very pretty original car with no previous crash damage. It’s too good to part but too expensive for me to fix. I’m done trying to figure out what to do. I am not an expert so ask questions.I can take more photos if needed.
