Jeep has long been one of the kings of the off-road world, and the 1989 Jeep Grand Wagoneer was a welcome addition to the powerful Jeep fleet. A higher end model than the Jeep Wagoneer, the 1989 Jeep Grand Wagoneer boasted a 5.9-liter V8 engine with 144 hp. A 3-speed manual transmission came standard in the 1989 Jeep Grand Wagoneer. This and the standard 4-wheel-drive gave the Grand Wagoneer pitiful gas mileage, 11/13 mpg, but one hardly buys an SUV to save money on gas.

Comforts were not forgotten in the Grand Wagoneer, either. Air conditioning, power windows, a rear-window wiper, an overhead console and a cassette player all were standard in the 1989 Grand Wagoneer. There was also an optional manual sunroof available for those who need to see the sky while driving and interior space aplenty, either for passengers or cargo.

Owners of the 1989 Jeep Grand Wagoneer were extremely happy with the SUV. They mostly agreed that it can drive anywhere in any weather. A common comment was that drivers feel safe behind the wheel of the Grand Wagoneer, probably because it was built like a tank. The big complaint was the terrible gas mileage, but what else can be expected from a V8 with a 3-speed transmission and 4WD? Overall, the 1989 Jeep Grand Wagoneer was a highly recommended SUV.
