Adventure Ready 1991 Jeep Cherokee 4.0L
1991 Jeep Cherokee Laredo Description
This Jeep is still running strong. It has a detachable tow bar and the previous owner said a significant amount of miles on the odometer are towing miles (the odometer still spins with the Jeep in neutral). I have driven it from Colorado to California and back twice over the last two years while it was jam packed with my stuff, most recently in early June. There is no “death wobble” and it has very nice road manners for a lifted Jeep. The interior is pretty clean and in good condition.
Mountain top picture was taken before new tires and rear fenders were installed.

INCLUDED BUT NOT INSTALLED
- CB radio. The antenna is installed and wiring inside. It has a magnetic base and is shown laying down in the pictures. The radio will turn on and light up, but never was able to get sound out of it. I think it just needs a new handset.

- Tow bar connects to mounting points on underside of front bumper
- Misc. spare parts (alternator, radiator hoses, etc.)
LESS THAN PERFECT
- Does have a couple of slow oil leaks. I know the one is from the rear main seal (does NOT require transmission to be removed to replace) and another is the distributor gasket which I have purchased, but not installed.
- Rear leaf spring bushings need to be replaced as they are clunking around a bit.
- Feels like it might shift a bit rough sometimes, but it may just be the bolt shifting in the worn leaf spring busing.
- The top leaf on the rear passenger side leaf pack has separated a bit.
- Auxiliary fan is controlled by a switch, and is not automatically turned on my high engine temps. I generally just leave it on as running too cool is not an issue.
- Wiring for A/C has been disconnected.
- There is some rust on the rock sliders, frame stiffeners, roof rack, and a couple of spots on the body. Most of it is pretty shallow (surface rust)
- Body has a few dents.
- Upper hinge on driver’s door pulled out of the body. I had it welded back on, but there is now a bit of a gap. I have seen the carpet under the drivers feet get wet a few times when it rained hard and the Jeep was parked and think this gap may be the culprit.
- Clip holding the lock on the driver’s door in place broke or fell off and will need to be replaced. Lock is currently held in place with packing tape.
- Driver’s door check is jammed and door check on rear passenger door is missing
- Window/lock controls on front passenger door and rear passenger door are pushed in. Need to be pushed out and re-glued.
- Back mounting bolt on passenger side of front bumper is not installed (though I have it). Been that way 5 years. I’ve driven it and used the winch without issues.
- Front passenger seat does have a few darker spots that could use cleaning.
- Hood scoops are currently held on partly with duct tape as the adhesive gave up.
- Had to move the windshield washer fluid container forward to make room for the larger brake booster. It is interfering a bit with the hood closing and the hinge on that side is complaining a bit. I think replacing the windshield washer bottle with one from a 95-96 Cherokee would remedy this.
- The CB radio was mounted to the overhead console and pulled it down some. The digital thermostat and compass display on the center console have been working intermittently.
- Rear axle seals have slow leaks
- Rear brakes will probably need to be replaced soon.
- The radio antenna is not raising and lowering though I can hear the motor turning. The fuse is currently pulled.
- There is one crack in the vinyl in the middle of the dash
- Rearview mirror fell off and took a shallow chunk of glass with it. The window company said they will replace the windshield if they can't get it to stick. I will work on resolving this before it sells.
- Intermittent high idle issue. If I turn it off and on a few times or give it a quick rev over 4k rps solves this. I cleaned the throttle body and replaced the idle air control valve and throttle position sensor. This is a common Jeep issue and there is lots of info on forums about how to resolve.
- The plastic tube that runs from the compressor to the front ARB air locker melted and needs to be replaced. Extra tubing is included in the sale and this should be pretty easy to fix.
- The driver seat frame is broken toward the back right, so the seat leans a little to the right and wiggles a bit.
- The locks were replaced and for some reason you have to pull the key out a click before you can turn it to open the door. The ignition works normally.
- Fenders were not designed for an XJ and have been cut to fit.
