This Jeep lived an easy life. The body and frame are 100% rust free. I won't say you won't find a spec of very minor surface rust here or there, but there is nothing more than that anywhere on this vehicle. This Jeep lived most of it's life in Texas, and a very short life in Maine before coming here to Arizona. I know these Jeeps very well and know exactly where to look for problems. The inside of the tub under the carpet has bedliner material in there, but I'm 100% certain its not hiding any rust, rot, etc. At one point one of the previous owners decided they liked the look of the bedliner. It is a very nice, rugged, professional install.
All lights and gauges function as they should. Jeep drives very nice. It is a 36 year old vehicle and I gave it a cursory go through. I highly suggest changing out all the oils and such when you receive the vehicle as I don't know when the last fluid changes were (except for the transmission, read below). Just being honest here. Vehicle does not have any active leaks, but again, it's an old vehicle subject to leak eventually. A gasket R&R would also be a good idea.
When I bought the Jeep, the person I bought it from claimed the shipper did something to break the transmission. Well, that was not the case. A very common problem with these T176 transmissions occurred when the top cover/housing cracked, causing the shifter retaining pins to not stay seated properly. The previous owner even put a hose clamp around both pins (common makeshift repair to avoid replacing cover) to try to make them stay retained in the housing. I was not happy and could not let it leave like this, so I fixed it properly. I took off the transmission tunnel cover, removed the T176 shift cover, and replaced it with a brand new one, along with a new gasket. While I had it open, I inspected the gears, synchros, and shift forks and they had minimal/normal wear, as any 34,xxx mile transmission would. Obviously all fluids were replaced while I was in there, and the transmission operates nicely.
The paint has some very minor touch ups performed by one of the previous owner. These touch ups include minor rock chips on the grill, front fenders, and just a few miscellaneous locations on the Jeep. Very hard to notice the touch ups, but I like to be as transparent as possible.
I have been very thorough and accurate about this Jeep because like any vehicle buyer, I'm not happy with surprises. This Jeep is all-original and in outstanding condition. Few and far between examples are as nice as this one. Please, let me know if you have any questions PRIOR to bidding. I'm available at my cell phone 520-789-0875.
