1988 Jeep Wrangler 2.5 with hard top, solid frame, great mechanical condition
1988 Jeep Wrangler S Description
Up for sale is my fantastic trusty old Jeep Wrangler!
I bought this Jeep last summer from my mechanic Dave, who was working on my Alfa Romeo 164. He owned this Jeep for around 20 years and hardly drove it. When I bought it, it needed lots of work. I have put over 15,000 miles on this Jeep since last summer, including many road trips from eastern PA to Massachusetts! Somehow, amazingly, this Jeep DRIVES STRAIGHT. I have not had to align it!! Yes, this Jeep has some nicks, some dings, and a little of surface rust here and there... but, I prefer to call it character!
I have had so many adventures in this Jeep, especially over the summer. Everyone loves this thing, especially kids. I'm a bit sad having to sell it,but I just bought a brand new car, so I need to let the Jeep go!
The front window and window frame are BRAND NEW. And yes... the window does fold down!!!
BODY: The frame, to the best of my knowledge, appears to be SOLID, which, as many of you know, is rare for a YJ. Please see the pictures I took of the undercarriage. There does appear to be some rust where the transmisson skidplate bolts to the frame, though, but I have not seen any other spots where there appear to be any problems.
INTERIOR: The interior is in great shape overall. The door panels, door pulls, and sun visors are brand new. I put in the custom fit floor mats right after I bought the Jeep.
TIRES: I bought these tires and had them installed by a local shop right after I bought the Jeep. They have ~15,000 miles on them. I have rotated these tires every 4,000 miles.
ELECTRICAL: All signals work, horn works, wipers and sprayers work, all lights are good. All intrument panel gauges work.
MECHANICALS: The engine in this Jeep is actually from a 1991 Wrangler, and was swapped out by the previous owner. LOTS of work has been done to this Jeep. The engine runs smoothly and strong for an early YJ! The previous owner rebuilt the transmission, and it cannot shift any better or any smoother. Recent full tune up, oil changes done every 3k with Mobil 1, water pump and thermostat recently replaced. FULL brake job, front and rear! (See full list below.) Also, I replaced the valve cover with the high quality MOPAR replacement, and it DOES NOT LEAK!!! I also fixed the crankcase vent grommets by putting some gaskets on them, and they don't seem to be leaking at all, either!
Duringthe past few snow storms we had here in eastern PA, I took this Jeep for a spin, and it is a TANK in the snow. It easily climbed up a steep, unplowed road to the top of mountain right behind where I live. Four wheel drive works great!!
I think this Jeep is the most fun in the summer, though, with the top and doors off. The hard top is easy to remove, and you can even do it by yourself. I am including with this auction two saw horses and a small step stool, which I used whenever I needed to take off the hard top and didn't have one or two people to help me (see picture).
WORK DONE ON THIS JEEP SINCE I BOUGHT IT LAST SUMMER:Tires - Goodyear Wrangler Radial 235/75R15 (installed by local shop right after I bought it)Valve coverSpark plugsSpark plug wiresFuel filterAir filterDifferential fluid change front and rearClutch master cylinderFront brake calipersFront brake rotorsRear brake drumsRear brake shoesRear brake cylindersRear brake hardwareWater pumpRadiatorFan clutchUpper coolant hoseFront brake calipersAll new shocks, front and rearSteering stabilizerSteering shaftMAP sensorTPS sensorIdle air valvePCV valve and hoseRear crankcase vent hoseBattery terminalsFuel pressure sending unitFuel fill hoseFuel vent hoseFuel rollover valveGas capRear hatch strutsFront window cowl gasketDoor window outer slidesDoor panelsDoor pullsSun visorsRear view mirrorHeadlights (and various other light bulbs)Many miscellaneousscrews, bolts, hose clamps, a few wire repairs, etc.
** I have a list of the mileage when most of the above repairs were done, for whoever ends up buying this Jeep.
Done by the previous owner right before I bought it:New seatbeltsNew brake lines, front and rearFront brake pads
The clutch master cylinder, front rotors, and full rear drum brake service was done by a local repair shop. I have the receipts for these. All other work I did myself. If you haven't worked on a Jeep before... it's easy, fun, and will save you a lot of money.
CURRENT ISSUES:Analog clock does not work :(Radio and lighter randomly stopped working last summerA little bit of water sometimes leaks in from the passenger side vent window
NOTE: The title for this Jeep is listed as reconstructed. I do not know the story of why this is the case, and neither does the previous owner. All I do know is that this Jeep drives straight, appears to have a straight body, and runs great.
ALSO INCLUDED IN THIS AUCTION:Lots of extra little parts, odds and ends, screws, bolts, etc.Bikini top, and what looks like the hardware to install it.I also have a soft top, but it is pretty old and beat up, and missing the rear window. If the winning bidder wants, I can include this for free. If anyone would like pictures of any of this stuff, send me a message.
Any questions, feel free to contact me.
Although I have attempted to describe this Jeep to the best of my knowledge, it is used and is being sold AS IS, with absolutely no returns, refunds, exchanges, guarantees or warranties of any kind. Buyer responsible for paying and arranging for shipping, or for picking up vehicle.
