1989 Jeep Wrangler Sport Description

Up for sale is a 1989 Jeep Wrangler Sport.

This is not your normal beach bound Barbie wrangler. This thing is a beast! This truck was created to conquer any trail and obstacle in its path.

The build goes as follows:

The stock YJ body was placed on a cj7 frame for a longer wheel base and a given a 6’’ lift.

Next a Kingpin Dana 60/5.13 gears with arb locker gears was added up front along with a Ford Dana 60/ 5.13 gears with an arb at the rear. The resulting wheelbase ended up set at 108’’ with the ability to go 110’’ with some more modifications.

The stock engine was then removed to make room for a lightly modified 304 V8.

Tie it all together with an NV4500 5-speed and some meaty 42’’ Wrangler MT/s and you have a truck that isn’t afraid of anything.

The Pros:

All of the aforementioned parts and work done to make this monster.

No rust! I think there is one bolt that has some surface rust but other than that it is super clean underneath!

20 gal. fuel tank for those longer trails

New wheels and tires ( they have seen use on the trailer but I would guess 95% tread life remaining

Street legal- this truck is street legal with a clean NV Title. If you are in CA I would say that you couldn’t get this to pass smog but here in NV if a car is older than 25 years you can get it registered as a classic.

Removable hardtop with fold down front window- For when you want to feel the wind through your hair

All interior gauges work! The dash isn’t cracked as far as I have seen.

Onboard compressor for airing up or down the tires on the go.

The Pro(ish)/ Mostly Cons:

These are the things that you may or may not appreciate about the truck.

The height- the truck is tall! Some may say too tall/ some may say not tall enough! The suspension is setup so that with some minor work you could lower it if you want to daily it. We had it about 4’’ lower and it was perfect for daily drive but put it back to its full beast mode height for the sale.

The exhaust- there is no ignoring the exhaust as it has straight headers to side pipes. No mufflers ( although inserts could be bought). This is not a truck you want to be starting at 6:00AM on a Tuesday (unless your neighbors are super cool in which case please let me know when a house comes up for sale in your area)

The Cons:

Paint- It’s there (mostly) ! That about the kindest thing I can say about it.

Interior- The seat have covers on them for a reason.

My final words of wisdom are that this is not a show truck but a beast. The kind of like Beast from Beauty and the Beast. You know show him some love and he will transform into something beautiful (I make no guarantee that this beast will transform into a man once you learn to love it). If you gave this truck a paint job andmaybe threw in a full exhaust this would be a showstopper for sure. Right now it is a trail monster.

I am sad to see it go but I am selling this because I have too many other jeeps and I want to build up a Scrambler I have.

I will try to add a link for a Video of startup and driving around the area.

If you have any questions or would like to schedule a time to look at it, send me a message.

Thanks,
