1969 Jeep Commando Jeepster Convertible ***Low Mileage***
1969 Jeep Commando Convertible Description
These Jeepster Convertibles are very rare, records indicate that fewer than 3,000 were made from 1967-'69.I purchased this Jeepster in 2015, from the second owner in Grants New Mexico. He was a WWII B-17 navigator who flew over 16 bombing missions over Nazi Germany, and wrote a couple books about his experiences (Google Flak Happy, Authorhouse). Anyways, he purchased it in 1971 in Patterson, California from a new Chevy dealer. He used it as his family car for several years, and even pulled a 16' travel trailer for family vacations. I have several slide show slides (remember those?) of his travels with the Jeep back in the 1970's. In 1986, he brought it to New Mexico, where it has resided ever since. Being a southwestern vehicle its entire life, there is very little rust (primarily surface rust). The Jeepster has 92,000 original miles.
It is equipped with its original 225 ci Dauntless V6 motor producing 235 ft lb of torque and T-86 3-speed manual transmission, Spicer 20 2 speed transfer case. It has locking hubs, original wheels and hub caps, a fairly new convertible top (includes the plastic rear window not pictured, but in good shape). I have added new seat upholstery, rhino-lined the interior floor, replaced fluids in engine, transmission, front and rear differential, and transfer case, tune-up, rebuilt the 2 bbl carburetor, new door seals, tailgate seals, new OEM taillight assemblies, and other misc items. It still needs some minor work such as the dash switches are getting pretty brittle, new sun visors, horn button (the horn ring is included), and door panels. All lights and turn signals work, including under dash courtesy lights. Gas gauge does not work, and temp gauge - works but is not accurate. The motor still has the original California smog equipment, and has an exhaust leak somewhere in the smog pump area. I left it alone since it was original to the Jeep. The Jeep runs good, and drives down the road straight. This Jeep is almost 50 years old and will need work. You can drive it as-is, or continue restoring to your own standards/tastes.The Jeepster is sold as-is, where/is.
