1994 Jeep Cherokee Black Description
"Exceptional" is probablythe most often used word in automobile ads and it isn't always as accurateas we would like. This ZJ is truly exceptional in many ways, and I'll try to prove it.
The first being that since the day it rolled off the assemblyline at the Jefferson North Plant in Detroit it has been in the same professionalfamily.
What this is not, is an expertly and professionallydetailed automobile that has beencosmetically improved and mechanically restored.
What this is, is a car that was specially and carefully ordered and in the care of one professional family since its Certificate of Origin was assigned to them. It has been driven by only two men, serviced meticulously and cared for in every way. It is, however, not perfect and we will try to point out its few flaws, but Im sure you will agree, it is one of the
most perfect ZJ Jeeps left.
The four tires are not brand new, but probably have less than 5,000 miles. The spare tire and its wheel I don't think have ever touched the road. The 4 wheels mounted on the car do show some erosion of the protective clear coating, as shown below with the virtually new spare. As further proof of this cars comfortable life, I don't think the jack and its acompning tools have ever been used. Take a look at thejack in the main photo section.
.
The options on this Jeep were selected carefully by its original owner, who methodically
chose exactly what he wanted and needed, knowing he would have to be ready to leave home at any time and in any weather. The specially ordered Command-Track 4-Wheel Drive indicats graphically what drive mode the vehicle is in and what wheels the power is directed to by lighting those wheels on its graphic display. The Trac-Lock rear axle and the Anti-Lock brake systems add a little more security.
But comfort wasn't forgotten.
From cup holders to a Sony stereo cassette connected to a multi disc changer in the rear, power leather seats and it seems as though the rear seats may have never been used!
The tilting wheel, overhead console and air conditioning were also nice touches included in the original order, as was the roof rack.
And since this was to be far more than just transportation, a beautifally constructed and quickly removable writing table was added. I think these pictures will show it far better than I can describe it.They show it not only installed but also removed. The mount itself can also can be removed with 2 bolts.
As exceptional as this is, like any well cared for car of this age there are, ofcourse, flaws. As good as the leather seating is, there is a worn area on the lower drivers side seat . There is also a scratch on the left front fender ( that looks worse in the picture, and a dimple where the trailer hitch rode forward the only time it was used. (the virtually new hitch is also included)The paint, which is original and untouched save for the trailer mark, has one more flaw. The hood panel surface is blemished, possibly from tree sap. This may be removed by a profesional detailer with more ability than I have, but it is there, even though the pictures do not show it.
I did suggest this car was exceptional, and this last item should prove it. When it was built, with the specified and superior 6 cylinder engine, it had a V-8 emblem on the tailgate as it rolled out of the Jefferson Road plant. There may be others so badged, withy a 6 cylinder engine, but I suspect not. That's exceptional.
I'm not sure there are any options this does not have, but there may be some I have left out. Ofcourse, the sunroof could not be installed with the more functional ceiling console and adjustable roof rack. It also has multiple cargo netting systems for the rear area, as well as a neat rear tonneau that lifts when the tail gate is opened. The tonneau also covers the disc changer that can be quickly removed, as it is in these pictures, but the professional wiring connections are
shown.
.
We have just installed a new rear tail pipe and the rear muffler as well as changing the oil and replacing the wipers as well as cleaning the engine bay. Also, just a few days ago, a new heavy duty battery.
A lot of us have been in love with the ZJ, a special vehicle that has seemed to transcend normal Jeep obsessions. It could have been the iconic ads in the enthusiest magazines, or it could have been that the trendsetting design, from the pen of the prolific designer of the Corvette Stingray and the Boss Mustang, Larry Shinoda, had styled a vehicle that set the mark for 4 wheel drive vehicles for the coming decades.
We can only hope this can be passed on to a person or family with the same appreciation for an exceptional Jeep as the the owners for the last 2 decades had.
