1986 Jeep CJ CJ7 Description

This project began as a beautiful, clean and rust free Jeep with140K on the body and frame. The Jeep still retains it's original paint. There are some scratches that have been touched up, though all body panels and original paint remain. The underside has been rust-proofed even though ZERO surface or any rust was ever found. Not one panel or body part has ever been repaired. It only had 4 owners in it's entire life!! The Jeep was already a nicely loaded edition with the original and now still working clock, tachometer, dana 44 rear axle, a 5 speed transmission, the larger 20 gallon fuel tank, a tilt wheel, hardtop and the beefy 4.2L 6 cylinder.

The Jeep was upgraded eliminating all the weak components while maintaining the original character and Jeep parts.I bought this Jeep from a friend in order to take the project to completion.Instead of swapping in a troublesome V8 conversion, we added the absolute best of modern performance, off-road ability, and incredible reliability - while still keeping it all MOPAR Jeep. The projectdefinitely got out of control when repairing, upgrading and converting it into the best-of-the-best.

This classic CJ7 is an incredible joy to drive. It handles the road AMAZINGLY WELL. The motor is now converted away from anythinglike the weak, stock CJ7.This Jeep got the very best upgrades making it stronger, and more reliable in every way.It now runs from the same bulletproof MPFI system found in the Wranglers up until 2014. MOPAR offers it as a factory conversion it is a true MOPAR Fuel Injection factory upgrade (you can read about this very popular factory conversion). The MOPAR kit, which is $2700 for just the part, adds about 60 more horsepower and 80 FT/LB TQ than stock. The result is also a 30% improvement in MPG from about 12 to about 16. Making it run evenbetter,a 4.0 head conversion was taken from a 1994 4.0 Jeep Cherokee (again, a very popular and proven reliability upgrade) that dramatically improves HP again by about 40 more, and 30 FT/LB of TQ.To add to the performance and smoothness, a Borla header allows it to easily rev to 3500 RPM while still gaining power. (I attached a screen from website selling the MOPAR FI kit) This shows the massive torque gain - and this is without the 4.0 head and Borla header.

The upgraded performance makes it nothing like a stock CJ 4.2L motor – which anemically produced just 110 HP.This motor now has twice the HP and TQ of a stock motor all in a much, much, more reliable, quiet, well running, etc. package. All 5 speeds/gears there is now smile producing accelaration and powerful hill climbing and freeway passing torque. It definitely has more than any stock factory CJ or Wrangler ever produced from the factory - even the current ones.It can be smogged and operated in California - for Ca buyers it will come with SMOG certificate.

I can’t oversell how well this motor runs and what a joy it is to drive compared to any stock CJ.It can easily go 85 MPH; and will pass going uphill in 5th gear. The motor RPM is about 2100 at 65 MPH in 5th gear.

The suspension is a spring over axle (SOA) with widened 2.5 inch YJ springs for a smoother, more predictable ride. The axle perches are extended outside frame to widen stance providing some additional stability and incredible off-road flex.An SOA conversion is at least 20 hours work by a professional shop. The Dana's now ride front and rear on a Rubicon Express 1.5 inch lift using SOA conversion springs that prevent axle wrap.Rancho 9000X adjustable shocks give it an outstanding and confident ride.No issues whatsoever driving on freeway at 75 mph.

The stock Dana 300 was upgraded with a 4:1 Tera Low kit for an exceptional off-road crawling set up. Though the 5 speed keeps it as an every day driver on freeway. The front differential housing was upgraded to bulletproof Dana 44, the stock rear already has the Dana 44. The 4:1 and Dana's are the same set up you'd find on all Wrangler Rubicons from first year until now. Front and rear are 4.38 ratio. The rear has a soft locker, the front is an ARB air locker.Four tires and rims have 100 miles on them. The spare is used.

The Genright cage, with all the added components, is $2000 shipped to you. It's a work of art once installed. It does not interfere with side and front window vision, yet is extraordinarily strong and well thought out. It even allows for easy access into and out of the cab without interfering with your foot/leg as all other cages that mount the floor do. This one mounts to the dash and the side of the body panels for exceptional strength and no loss of precious room in the cabin and floorboards. It's at least 20 hours of work to install this set up.

All components, fuel and all other gauges, switches, wipers, buttons, electrical system work as or better than new. It's wired to run dual batteries which is made by Kodiak and is very heavy duty, though untested. Dash lights works, headlights are H4, and the off-road light is an HID light that will light up a block. Stereo is old school original Sony, it works, and the dash is UNCUT.

The transmission was rebuilt with heavy duty bearings and gears. The top end of the motor was entirely rebuilt at the same time as the rest of the build. The brakes, axles etc, are all new or rebuilt. There is about 1500 mi on the package.

This is $33,000 in parts alone. This is an amazing value for the buyer who’s looking for the best (everyday) Jeep in America.Sure, you could paint this one for shows, add some additional things or upgrade to V8 power etc. Those Jeeps are incredible too, but are not daily drivers. This one runs like a brand new 2018 Jeep, can be diagnosed and repaired by any Jeep dealer, or auto shop.None of the motor modifications are custom or difficult to maintain. This is simply a conversion to modern components - which is rarely done nowadays due to the time-consuming nature of it the configuration. 15+ years ago, this was a very popular motor upgrade due to it's massive improvement in peformance along with the bulletproof nature of it all.

The Jeep was recently inspected by one of the most reputable Jeep and off-road builders in the Northern California. The result was a new MAP sensor, a guage repair, and a new rear axle and bearing. Good to go!

I'm happy to help coordinate a shipper. I've used eBay shippers in the past, they seem to be the best ones to use. Please use them for quotation purposes.
