1979 Jeep Wagoneer Description

You are looking at a 79 AMC Jeep Wagoneer. This is a barn find. I bought it at an estate sale. I have no history on it but I do have a clear title in my name. Last Pa state inspection was in 1994. We brought it into the shop, put a battery and hooked up a fuel jug under the hood and it fired right up. No smoke or funny noises. Sounds real responsive. It is a 360 2bbl with Automatic with Quadra-Trac and Lo-Range. It has brakes (but the lines look rusty) and the transmission works. I drove it around in our driveway. I couldn’t drive it much because the A/C compressor was froze and the belts were gone. We were not turning the P/S or the water pump. Did not try the 4x4 but am confident it works fine. This Jeep needs work to be put back on the road but is a great candidate and worth fixing now that Wagoneer prices are going through the roof. So….. here is what I know. The Odometer says 34K. Assume that is 134. The frame is solid. The floors, rocker panels and ¼ panels need to be replaced. Original paint so what you see is what you get. No hidden bodywork. The engine runs nice but the carb leaks and need rebuilt. From experience, I can tell you the fuel pump will die soon but works for now. There are no belts on the engine. I didn’t drop the fuel tank. Assume you are replacing it. The exhaust system appears to be intact. The tires were shot so I put some nice BFG Mud-Terrain T/A tires on it. The brakes work but plan on rebuilding everything due to age. The interior is pretty nice. It is factory A/C with tilt column. Just a little ware on the driver side seat and the bottom of the door panel. The rear power window works. We were unable to get the tail gate open. One side latch is froze. Rear bumper is shot and needs replaced. A good back yard mechanic could be driving this by Spring time. Very worth restoring. Wish I could keep it but have way too many projects.
