This best of breed, like-new, original, low mileage 1989 Jeep Grand Wagoneer underwent a body-off, rotisserie restoration with new sheet metal, paint, and faux wood trim. The repaint in the original color-spec of Dover Gray followed judicious replacement of small rusted areas of the quarter panels and rockers with welded-in sheet metal. A new grille, faux wood decals, and other trim were fitted. It features an original equipment list that includes a roof rack, optional rear end and the tow package
Power is provided by a 5.9-liter V8 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission and a Selec-Trac viscous transfer case, all three of which have been rebuilt. The 360ci V8 was rebuilt with an overbore as well as new pistons, rings, bearings, and ARP connecting rod bolts. Modifications include a Howard camshaft and lifters, a roller timing set, Magnum rocker arms, an aftermarket carburetor on an Edelbrock intake, and an MSD ignition system. The engine, transmission, and transfer case were refinished, while a radiator repair was performed and a new heater core installed.
Power is sent to the rear or all four wheels through a rebuilt three-speed automatic transmission and Selec-Trac NP229 viscous transfer case. The underside was media blasted, powder coated, and fitted with new suspension components and brake pads. A new Walker exhaust system was also installed and both the interior floor and underside of the truck received a coat of spray-on bed liner for sound reduction and rust protection.
Factory 15″ wheels were refurbished and balanced with whitewall tires. The receiver hitch was reconditioned, while photos show pitting in the chrome roof rack and tailgate emblem which were kept original to preserve the use of metal parts (vs plastic repro parts).
The interior seats were preserved and features Cordovan leather in like-new condition. Carpeted areas were stripped, new passenger-side floor pans were welded into place, and fresh paint was added. Further work included installation of a new headliner as well as new carpets, seatbelts, speakers, hardware, and interior trim pieces. The power windows, seats, locks and rear window work as they should. Additionally, a new air conditioning system was added.
The prior owner spent over $65,000 on the restoration which is confirmed through receipts. A late 2019 resorting cleared a few small "teething" issues by replacing the battery, the thermostat housing and a tweaking of the idle settings and suspension. This Grand Wagoneer is offered with refurbishment receipts and photos and a clean history—four owners and no history of damage or accidents.
