1959 Jeep CJ CJ5 Description

1959 CJ5 Willys Jeep with no reserve

Buick Odd fire V6 engine with Rochester 2 bbl carburetor (told a 198 V6). 4 speed manual transmission (T98 stamped on case). Dana transfer case with PTO. Heavy duty winch. Lifted with BF Goodrich 32 x 11.5 x R15 LTs with about 50% tread left and spare. Fold down windshield. New/updated accessories (chrome latches, body armor, etc.). Former owner indicated that it has new clutch and new brakes, and from photos you can seethe clutch assemblyappears new. Very solid body with some paint imperfections and clear coat peeling and some surface rust only underneath (see photos). Seats are in good shape. Mileage listed is what former owner used previously but cannot verify. Comes with Bikini Top, soft doors, spare tire carrier, and extra hubs (see photo).

Was told Jeep would start when purchased but it did not. Had starter professionally rebuilt and engine fired right up after installing. Also was told by former owner that the engine has aleaky block (believed to be freeze plugs and crack) but that he sealed with block seal in the summers and drove. Have run for very short time periods without warming up and it runs pretty good. Was able to drive aroundthe blockyesterday with no issue shifting and braking. Because former owner drained radiator and I have been unable to confirm the condition of the block have not pushed it past a few minutes of run time but it definitely can be driven onto a trailer. Also changed transfer case fluid. Other known issue is thatthe speedometer does not work and appears to be bent and misalignedat cable termination.

Other than getting the starter rebuilt and changing the transfer fluid I have done minimal work to this Jeep. Due to the concerns with the engine I purchased a Buick 231 V6 odd fire engine and had the long block professionally rebuilt. The Jeep does not come with the engine but the rebuilt long block and all other accessories original to the engine including the intake manifold, carb, distributer, and flywheelcan be purchased by the buyer and I'm willing to take a slight loss to make space.

Wish I had the time to complete as this Jeep is very solid but circumstances have forced me to start getting rid of stuff. Preference is for interested buyers to email questions and leave a phone number but you can call(970) 769-1955. I likely will not answer during the day on weekdays. My name is Jim.

Thanks for your interest.
