Here at MotoeXotica Classic Cars, we have one of the Good Maxwells, a rarely seen 1923 Maxwell 25 Club Coupe, and even better, it is a multiple-award winner. We recently acquired this Maxwell from a collector who was very fond of the Maxwell brand. He spent many years showing off this Maxwell Coupe and is included with a lot of hard to find Maxwell literature and books.
Finished in a burgundy and black exterior, this pert lil’ machine’s exterior is in very good order, as are the car’s glass panels. The lights, including the cowl lights, are in a similar very good order. The full disc wheels echo the car’s body colors and are surrounded by Universal 31x4 four-ply tires, including a rear-mounted spare. All of the body panels are straight and solid. An interesting feature is the two-piece windshield with sun visor. The upper portion flips up while the lower portion folds down.
The engine bay is tidy and the battery is in good shape. Under the vee-shaped hood is a 185.8 CID inline four-cylinder engine with three main bearing and a Stewart carburetor backed by a three-speed manual transmission with a 4.60 differential. The car comes with special fuel shut-off instructions but please note that the horn, speedometer and fuel gauge are inoperable. The car also has rear mechanical drum brakes. The cargo area is in very good order and includes a jack and tire iron.
Inside, the black bench seat is in near-excellent condition. The car’s wood floor is in very good order, as is the black headliner. The wooden instrument panel lends an air of warmth. The dash and the four-spoke steering wheel with a wooden rim and black inner door panels are all in great condition. The mirror glass and shift are both in good condition. There is no radio in this car.
Documentation include Maxwell instruction books, motor parts price list and other literature. This Maxwell has won many honors; trophies and awards are included. Two years after this car was made, Maxwell became part of the Chrysler Corporation.
