This is rust free example, was imported from the dry region of Andalucia, Spain.This Land Rover Defender,was assembled in Spain by the famed Land Rover Santana S.A. factory in Linares (Jaen) Spain. Their designation is Santana 2500 due to the 2.5 NA Diesel engine which was very popular with the British Ministry of Defense and were the first in their class (small capacity high-speed diesels) to pass the MOD's arduous 500-hour durability trial. Other small improvements were made such as the fitment of a spin-on cartridge oil filter instead of older, harder-to-change element type and the fitting of under-piston oil jets.This model engine also has the 5 main bearings versus the previous 3 which increases longevity. This engine is mated to a five-speed LT85. The LT85 (85 mm shaft spacing) was used in all V8 110 and 90 Land Rovers. The LT85 was originally designed under contract by Land Rover for Santana in Spain and was considered to be a strong working gearbox. Rover purchased LT85 gearboxes directly from Santana.
