1985 Land Rover 110
1980 Land Rover Defender County Station Wagon Description
Vehicle is a 1985 Land Rover 110. I have owned this vehicle since 2010. Originally purchased with just under 48k miles. It was imported to the US in 2012 and has been titled and registered in Texas since then. I currently drive this to work roughly 70 miles a day down and up 6% grade hills so mileage is increasing. It has had an engine change to a 3.5 liter Mazda turbo diesel but retained the stock LT-85 transmission and transfer case location for the V8. If you ever want to switch back, it should be painless. It will cruise well above 70 mph(I don't because of wind noise) on flat and maintain 55-70 mph depending on road grade. This is not a clapped out rust bucket. It's not perfect, though. Currently gives me 20-22 combined mpg with my daily drive w/2500' elevation change. In MS and TX it used to give me 24 combined mpg and 28mpg on the highway.
Before importing in 2012 I installed a rebuilt transmission and transfer case with 1.003 ratio from Ashcroft Transmissions in the UK. New Exmoor seats that are still in very good condition. Fabricated interior roll cage that mounts to the frame in 6 places. Just put new tires on the Terrafirma Dakar rims in November. Replaced the entire exhaust with a custom one in late 2015. Has a newer rear door off a 2011 truck and full width Allisport radiator and intercooler.
Bulkhead work to fix isolated footwell rust was done in 2015. Paint is NOT good despite the pictures. Recommend in person inspection.
It's 32 years old. It does have various issues/nuances/quirks; however, I drive this vehicle with confidence daily when the temperature is below 75 F. Above that it's too hot without air conditioning so I steal the wife's Lexus. Email me (matthew.greenspan at gmail dot com) if you have questions. VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY LOCATED IN CALIFORNIA; HOWEVER, I RECOMMEND YOU DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH ON HOW TO GET AN IMPORTED Land Rover REGISTERED IN CALIFORNIA IF YOU LIVE HERE.
Starting bid is $19k. Reserve is set to $24.5k. Buy it now is $30k. It's reasonably priced for a vehicle that doesn't require you to replace the frame and everything else associated with the Land Rover brand. Why am I selling? I bought a 1965 IIa 88" and my wife says I have to "try" to get rid of this.
