I know buying a vehicle without the benefit of being there to inspect it can raise a lot of questions, and these questions are most efficiently answered 'live' on the telephone, just like dad used to do it! Now, onto the truck for sale here:
This is a 1991 Defender 90 that my partner in the UK has gone over, inspected, driven and shaken down. It is now in transit here to the US, and its estimated arrival date is May 13, 2017. Purchase price will include all duties paid, as well as all legal papers to obtain title in your state, including UK registration and CBP/EPA forms stamped by CBP office. In the case of California buyers, truck will come with US title so that you can title register and drive truck in your state. As a diesel it will be exempt from smog rules and will be able to be registered. This truck is available now for purchase. A $1000 refundable deposit will secure it until vehicle is here and ready for your inspection or ready to be transported to your location. Balance of full purchase price is due before truck can leave premises here.
As far as actual details of the truck are concerned, this Defender is set up as a pick up truck. It has the very practical iFor Williams canopy on the back with dog/ livestock swing up gate installed. Canopy can be quickly detached to haul other loads. Truck can can be taken off in minutes too, for a full convertible experience. You can also get a hard top or full canvas roo, and enjoy any of these 4 vehicle configurations. I can help you get any other roof you may like.
Truck has 156,000 miles and its original engine and transmission. Trucks starts on the button and runs/ drives great without any unpleasant surprises. Original Defender 200Tdi engine is very desirable upgrade, as it gets this truck to scoot along quickly and return great fuel mileage. I sell these engines alone for $6000 each and installation would be another 3-400, so the value add ups quickly here. Als, we have had the advantage of looking the truck over in person and finding very solid vehicles with little or no rust. This truck is quite solid, with some of the only corrosion present in door bottoms, which are not terrible, but could use some attention to be perfect.
Passenger side door (Left hand side in this case) is a replacement and does not have Defender decal present. Color does not match rest of truck on exterior.
5 speed transmission shifts and operates as it should, with just a little bit of gear backlash in the drivetrain present (less than most, but most sellers do not mention this). Frame and bulkhead solid. No fluid leaks or overheating/ mechanical issues. Brakes feel strong and truck pulls straight under braking. Tires and big and look chunky and great, but are noisy on the motorway as this type of tread is not silent. Perfect for off roading.
Interior is tidy and original. Seats look good as do door cards. Dash looks nice. Alloys and big tires set the truck up nicely, and while it is a cute little truck it also looks tough/ serious with its big 'boots' on.
Body does have dings dents and scratches consistent with a vehicle like this being used on a farm. Please look at photos, this is not a parking lot queen, but it is also not a truck with a fast paintjob squirted on it to cover up hidden damage. I prefer trucks like this, reasonably priced so you can take it and build it into the vehicle you want to. you can see the original panels now and know more accurately what you are buying.
I believe you can hop in this truck and drive home, anywhere your home is, so long as there are some streets and solid ground between here and there. This truck will prove to be very reliable, simple and economical to run.
