1994 Land Rover Discovery Description

If you are looking for a first year in U.S.A, stock, rust-free (California), Disco 1 with records since new, this may be the truck for you. I shipped it from the west coast to Brooklyn about six months ago, after looking for about a year for one of these that wasn't a beat-up, rusted out, money pit. If you've been looking, you know how hard it is to find these "poor-man's defenders" in this condition, and their value is rising as they become more scarce. Here are the basics. The good; 1) zero rust. To me, rust is a deal breaker. When I bought this truck I even google mapped the sellers address to see if it was near salt water (it was inland as was owner's before him). All the usual spots are clean; under carpets, bulkhead, pillars, where seat belt fixture attaches, door jambs, cargo area, everywhere is super clean. 2) Exhaustive records from new. I'm talking the whole history of this truck; services, every cancelled check, there's a folder the size of an encyclopedia, original window sticker included. Head gaskets were done 40k miles ago; never a cheap job, but when you hit the 150k mile mark if you haven't done them, you should as a preventative measure. Anyway they are done by Rover specialty shop. New tires. New alternator. New brakes. Manual seats! The only thing close to any kind of leak I can find is a few drops of power steering fluid if she sits a few days, but steering box is excellent. She starts right up, and goes; no ticking in engine, no overheating, none of the typical maladies that can affect this trucks. The engine itself drives like one with much lower miles. Personally, I love these Gems engines; if you take care of them they just keep going. (My last 96 Disco 1 had 343k miles on it and is still going strong; I see the new owner drive by once in a while and it just makes me smile). In summary, mechanically/structurally this Disco is excellent. On to the electrics. It has a few very typical Land Rover quirks. Front sunroof motor isn't working, back one works fine. Neither leak. Passenger door lock rarely goes down, but I have garaged it so, haven't worried about that. Anti lock brake light intermittently comes on and when it does, the rear windows don't go down, a fuse/wiring issue, the abs brakes are in great shape, that is not the issue. All the window motors work. Cargo door opens with key but can be sticky without. That's about it, and for a twenty-something year old British truck; not bad. Cosmetics; there is sun damage clearcoat peel of the Ardennes Green on roof and hood. If perfect paint is really important to you, this may not be the truck you are looking for. I considered repainting those areas but decided to keep it original. The typical sun-baking of the plastic dash and doorjambs did NOT occur though, they are all in great shape. Passenger seat leather has about a 2 inch tear in seam, very repairable, the squab itself is in great shape. Headliner is beginning to be slightly puffy in a few places, but serviceable, no crazy drooping. Plastic interior trim not cracked in usual places, leather in really good shape. Why am I selling? I bought this as my weekend toy, and have stored in my garage at my house in Long Island's wine country (original owner used it to drive clients around vineyards in California interestingly enough). I have probably put less than 800 miles on it since buying. A friend just gave me her 1995 Range Rover Classic lwb, after upgrading to a new car. Nice to have friends who do stuff like that. I can only afford one toy at a time, so I had a tough choice to make. Hope this Rover goes to a good home. I have a ton of pictures and a walkaround video. Ebay only let me post 24 pics. Happy to email them. PLEASE secure your funds, your spouse's permission, or whatever else you need to buy this if you are interested so we don't waste each others time. PLEASE keep your dog from pushing the "buy it now" button when you weren't looking. There is no warranty, obviously, I am not a dealer and this is a used English car from the 90's. With regard to inspections; there are a lot of great mechanics in Brooklyn where the Disco now is, or you can bring your own. I am happy to assist with coordinating shipping. Whoever gets this truck will love it. I will be driving it so mileage will go up slightly. Not pictured I have seat covers and OEM rear light guards included. Thanks for reading.
