1980 Land Rover Defender Description

THis is what I think one of the most unique Land Rovers in USA and for sure the coolest I have ever had. Bought it in Australia a few years ago; Civilian 6x6; The Australian purists don't allow me to call this a Perentie.

.

First, this is an 1987 not 1980 as listed above. Ebay doesn't allow younger cars with grey market VIN numbers.

This Land Rover is an original 6x6 build by Land Rover Australia (LRJA). This is not the later military one but one of the pre-productions made for civilian use. It has the standard Land Rover Defender cab and not the later used wider version. Somewhere in its live it was converted to an overland vehicle to cross the Outback. If featured in many magazines there.

I bought it some years ago in Australia, shipped and imported it here. Later I ended up with another 6x6 Perentie and this one has to go.

Only a hand full were made by JLR in Australia as a kind of proto type for the later army Perenties. This specific one was later in its life converted to a motor home to cross the outback. It featured in many magazines there.

I bought it three years ago with some plans to convert it. The seller was a reall night mare to work with but at the end I got it here in Michigan with a broken transmission. Was quite frustrated and left it in the corner for two years. Last year I found another 6x6 which suits my plans better. ALso found another transmission, fixed it and now can sell it.

The Good:

- totally rust free

- galvanized frame

- standard width body (not the wider Perentie 6x6)

- Isuzu Turbo diesel

- Working AC

- sits 4

- sleeps two inside

- a lot of storage room

- 100 gallon (!) diesel tanks

- 75 gallon fresh water tanks

- PTO winch in the front

- Electric Husky winch in the back

- Carrier for dirt bike

- back up camera

The Bad:

- slow

- big

- no service records, I would recommend changing at least all oils, filteres etc, looks to me there hasn't been much done in the last years.

- there are a million switches, lights, key locks, radios, antennes etc etc, on this car, have no idea if everything is working.

The standard setup of this car is 6 x 4. THe last axle can be engaged with a vaccum swithc to provide 6x6. At the same time, it will lock the center differential so all axles will be powered. On top of that all the axles have air lockers.

There are too many other details to list here but I am more then happy to explain to people interested.

Car comes with clear MI title.

car is listed elsewhere against a higher price. I reserve the right to end this auction if it sells before.
