History of the Land Rover
The Land Rover Series range was launched in 1948 and the model, now known as the Defender, was launched in 1983 and the continuous run finished in January 2016, after 67 years. Land Rovers were inspired by the US-built Willys Jeep immediately after the war and by 1992 they claimed that 70% of all the vehicles they had ever built were still in use. The Defender and Series ranges have had unique international presence throughout the production run, having been exported, manufactured and produced under licence by a number of other manufacturers in a variety of markets, to include Australia, Southern and North Africa, Turkey, Brazil, Pakistan and Malaysia, to name just a few. In 1993 Land Rover decided to take the plunge into the US market after their successful launch of the Range Rover brand in 1987 in order to offer an upmarket alternative to the Jeep Wrangler targeted at adventurous buyers. Land Rover finally had to retract their offering from the North American and Canadian markets in 1997 due to economic viability. The defenders offered in the US during the 90?s had to be significantly modified in comparison to Land Rover?s other export markets. Subsequent federal safety regulation amendments finally withdrew the defender from the US market entirely in 1997, with Land Rover throwing their attention towards upmarket Discovery and Range Rover models that were being built from the ground up.
The CarThis 1994 Land Rover Defender 90 was first registered in Soria, Spain on 03/22/1994 by the delivering dealer Argicola Numancia S.A in Soria . The vehicle is an export built 90 from the Solihull England factory. It is currently situated in North Spain and spent most of its life in the region . It’s an entirely running and driving vehicle with an up to date ITV. It starts first turn and would make a great proposition for rough and ready use or could equally be restored or form the base for a build project. Please see below for condition specific notes
PaperworkThe car comes de-registered with a Spanish export title for registration in purchases country. The accompanying documentation, paperwork and provenance for this vehicle is very good. To include original Land Rover Defender 90/110 Spanish user manual that illustrates all elements of the vehicle. Alongside the car is also accompanied with its original Rover Group Spanish technical inspection logbook that documents the cars technical specification this is complete with every state technical inspection (ITV) from its first test year in 1994 up until this 2019. Condition
Interior
The interior is very original and all present. There is some signs of wear and tear to the seats, dash and door cards. It was delivered by Rover Group to the Spanish dealer with factory rear bench seats which are specified on the Spanish registration. The factory rear seat help eliminate any protentional chicken tax levy at 25% for US buyers, along with adding additional passenger capacity. The door cards in the front are not immaculate but are still very useable, however the rear door card would need replacing. As always, the binnacle surround has cracked but is solid and the dashboard has not cracked.
Exterior
The exterior of the car is in a very complete condition. Underneath presents fantastically and it’s evident that the vehicle has never been under sealed which is quite the testament to the condition of the chassis and outriggers. The rear cross member is very solid but there are a couple signs it has been repainted and a little filler applied to a dent. The car is structurally fantastic and requires no welding work at all. The footwell uprights, bulkhead and other normal areas for rust are all in great condition, there is only the smallest of surface corrosion in the passenger foot well area. All lights appear to be working but the plastic light surrounds are a cracked. A new set would massively benefit the aesthetics.
Paint
The car has had paintwork throughout the years but with some panels still carrying original paint. Overall the vehicle presents well, however the paintwork is by no means perfect.
Glass
The glass presents well with no chips or cracks to the front windscreen or any notable damage to other windows. The majority of window rubbers and seals are in good condition with no notable perishing or cracking except the front windscreen which has suffered from constant direct sunlight.
Wheels
This particular model is fitted with Land Rover original 16 inch rostyle steel wheels. They are wrapped in a set of good condition Cooper Discovery All Terrain tyres with a matching spare.
Mechanical
Engine
The engine bay houses an original 2.5 300TDI inline 4 cylinder engine – it’s an incredibly quiet unit and smooth when compared with the older diesel 200Tdi and 19J units.
Gear Box
Fitted with a five-speed manual gearbox -changes freely in all gears including low/high range.
Mechanical Overview
The mechanics of the car are good, there is a little oil leak but without one, it would be abnormal! The car is ready to drive away, with a healthy clutch and plenty of wear left on the brakes.
It would be recommended to have the vehicle serviced as we unfortunately do not have the paperwork from the last service.
