1972 Land Rover Defender Description

Vintage 1972 Land Rover 88 series 3 survivor unrestored original. Rebuilt engine within last 2500 miles. True milage not known. 1972 LAND ROVER Range Rover SERIES 3 88 "FEDERAL DELUXE HARDTOP". Does not come with roof tent (seen in pictures) Left hand drive. Solihull England built. Truck has never been under coated, anywhere, so there are ZERO hidden corrosion sins lurking beneath. Seeing is believing...Yes, like all land rovers this age, lots of oil leaks from axles and gear box seals. Many argue that this is intentional by British engineers to protect the underside from rust. They succeeded in their objective! This is an unrestored original, relatively immaculate, short wheel base survivor truck that has not been repainted. Aluminum body. Color is "Light Green" with Original paint "Limestone" wheels and Limestone removable roof and fold down windshield to go Safari Style. Included is full galvanized Bimini Top frame and canvas should you prefer to easily remove the doors as well. 4 cylinder 2.25 Gasoline engine. No smog required in California as the truck is pre 1975. This is a special "259" prefix vin number "FEDERAL DELUXE" example. Only 3,572 documented of these were built from early 1972-1974 for North America market only. Part of that package included sliding rear windows on the removable roof with side pivot tailgate.Hood mounted fresh spare tire and matching factory Limestone wheel with fold down windshield and manual air intake flaps at base of windshield for circulation. (The intakes certainly appear visually functional, but in actuality, take in very little air with spare on front hood). That's your A/C folks...Auxiliary optional fuel tank with gauge and toggle switchover. Locking fuel filler cap (keyed alike with storage boxes, etc. throughout).New EXMORE deluxe seats with headrests - I have original seats in excellent shape. New window seals. New seatbelts front and in the back. New Emu steering damper New emu shock absorbersFresh gear oil and axle oil. New aluminum auxiliary fuel tank ($1500) Long list of other parts on request. I have all the old parts which are all in good condition if you want to return to original spec. New Front bumper with Highlift jack.Overdrive transmissionRear Jerry can fuel tank 5 BF Goodrich 215/75R15 all terrain tires with under 1000miles on them. "Cubby Boxes" under front seatsJack/tool kitSignificant collection of receipts and registration cards included from original owner, and various books, brochures, etc. are included. Comes with a concise maintenance log from original owner since new. Recent documented Engine machine work including fully rebuilt head/valve train, carburetor, alternator, water/fuel pump, hoses, radiator, master cylinder, soft lines, etc. All documented with receipts. Overall just a super nice warm patina, survivor turn key California truck with documented original Blue license Plates. The proverbial tractor with a roof, wipers, and three doors. There is a dent shown in right front fender accompanied by an endearing hand written '70's document from original owner conveying his angst from the parking lot incident. Thus, the "badge of honor" remains in my ownership. Being an aluminum body, easily ironed out if desired. Registered and titled in my name. Original blue California Plates remain current. Is it perfect? Not quite, but considering it's over 45 years old, VERY difficult to find one like this, California bone dry with no rust or galvanic reaction anywhere. Some consider it socially unacceptable for a vintage Land Rover to be remotely close to perfect... This is an exception. White Headliner with working dome light is flawless and original interior is stellar, with center seating. Zero cracks in dashboard. Very nice running and driving example. Original owner hand crafted, furniture quality wooden storage boxes in rear cargo area, for fresh water fishing tackle storage. These are in lieu of the rear bench seats as seen in photos and store quite a bit. Cheap? Not really but that's relative. Quality? YesNOTE: additional photos of specific areas can be provided upon request. I will photographically monitor transport company of your choice should winning buyer elect to have the vehicle shipped.
