It's been in the Los Angeles area for its entire existence so there is no rust anywhere. This Continental is completely original and in excellent condition. The black leather interior looks like new including the seats, original carpet, headliner, rubber factory floor mats, and padded dash which is free of cracks. The vinyl top is like new with not a speck of rust underneath. The engine is smooth, powerful, and quiet. The transmission shifts perfectly. The automatic temperature control air conditioning gets cold and adjusts according to the temperature you set just like it did in 1967. Every accessory works including the electric windows, 6 way seat, power vents windows and door locks, AM radio, and electric antenna. Even the clock works (I had a quartz movement installed in 2007.) The original Florentine gold paint is 95% original and incredible. It still shines. I would not even consider repainting this car, remember they are only original once! I have all the receipts dating back to 1975 and a spread sheet for all repairs.
Over the years everything has been maintained as needed to keep the car absolutely reliable. Mileage is now at 135,800. During my ownership the car has never left me stranded, probably because I've repaired or replaced things before they failed. Here are some examples from over the years...
Engine: Replaced timing chain & gears, valve job with hardened seats, water pump, fuel pump, oil pump, exhaust manifold metal gaskets, valve lifters, fuel hoses, belts, radiator and heater hoses, oil pressure sending unit, motor and transmission mounts, thermostat, re-cored the radiator, replaced heater core and repaired foam on temperature blend door shutters. Carburetor overhauled (at least 3 times in 43 years). Tune up parts replaced including plugs, points, condenser, distributor cap, vacuum advance, and plug wires.
Front end: Lower ball joints, center link (twice), shocks, steering box, power steering pump overhauled, periodic wheel alignments
Brake system: All wheel cylinder rubber parts replaced, new correct dual master cylinder, pads and linings, all hoses replaced, converted to silicon (DOT 5) fluid. I have more than 20 years' experience with several cars converted to DOT 5 and once it's done, you should never have to worry about the hydraulics again.
Transmission: Overhauled twice in its life time.
Air conditioning: Compressor overhauled, any leaks diagnosed and repaired, refilled with R-12 Freon.
Exhaust system: Over the years the car has gone through many mufflers always using factory parts while they were available. The "over axle" mufflers were just replaced, the rears are still Lincoln factory replacements and they are quiet. The exhaust pipes from the manifold to the first mufflers were also replaced long ago because the original double walled pipes used to curl up inside and cause severe restrictions.
The car is still tight, quiet, and rattle free and you should be able to drive it across country without difficulty. I would be happy to have a prospective buyer inspect the car before purchasing. You will be hard pressed to find another Lincoln in this condition that has not been restored. One of the finest Survivors I have ever owned. Asking 18,500 OBO. For more Info:626-627-One800
