1939 Lincoln Zephyr Convertible Coupe V-12
1939 Lincoln MKZ/Zephyr Description
For your consideration is an absolutely beautiful 1939 Lincoln Zephyr convertible coupe, recently featured in the latest issue of Bombs and Kustoms Magazine.
This rare car is a combination of restoration and original, one of only 640 produced that year and of course fewer than that surviving today. It has its factory original V-12, 267 CID engine mated to a 3-speed manual transmission with the Columbia 2-speed rear end (overdrive or highway gears). Electrics are still 6-volt positive ground. An external 12-volt battery operates an auxiliary fan, keeping it cool at slow speeds (both are Optima batteries). The car runs excellent and it is ready to cruise.
The newly installed German stayfast canvas top goes up and down easily manually. The interior is burgundy leather and the exterior is very presentable onyx black. Like most beauties, she looks good from a few feet away and absolutely fabulous cruising down the street, but intimate flaws become obvious upon closer study.
She has been lowered a few inches by de-arching the springs and her suspension has updated shocks (work was done at reputable shops). These art deco cars inspire 1/18 models in equal color combinations...see the slammed or "bagged" model shown. Other than the lowering, this beauty is completely original with new tires. The wheels were pinstriped by Dennis Jones (google him).
The speedometer doesn't work...but wants to, the clock is right twice per day, and the instrument panel lights need work. The rest of the lights and gauges are fine (temperature, oil pressure, battery, fuel).
It can use some updating, but overall, this is a very beautiful car that draws crowds and is a multiple trophy winner.
The California World's Fair license plates may be included for only California buyers.
Open to reasonable offers, but nothing ridiculous please. One just like it from the Dingman collection sold for $269,500 in 2012 at RM Sotheby's. I am no Dingman...but nevertheless this prized Zephyr is worth a personal inspection (310-647-7150).
