1977 Lincoln Town Car triple black leather interior, nice survivor, nice driver!
1977 Lincoln Town Car Town Car Description
I am offering my beloved triple black 1977 Lincoln Town Car for sale. It is the kind of car that makes friends out of total strangers who seem to just LOVE this car! It has 116,000 miles total on it and runs and drives well. It is very reliable as I have invested time and money to maintain and improve this car to where I feel I can take it virtually any place. It has cold AC (recently rebuilt w/receipts), a major tune-up and new tires and a current Virginia safety inspection sticker and I run regular tags on it instead of antique plates because I don't believe in taking any shortcuts when it comes to safety. In my opinion, 1977 is THE BEST looking year for the Seventies era Town Cars, since you got the best grille treatment of the 1977 to 1979 line along with the best REAL Lincoln styled dash cluster with the 120 MPH speedometer in its final year with full gaugeinstrumentation (as opposed to the Mercury Marquis styled dash cluster in the 1978-79 series of Town Cars that only contained "idiot" lights instead of vital gauges like oil pressure and temperature), not to mention REAL fender skirts!
First the interior details: The car still retains its original all black leather interior with the hard to find original floor mats still in very good condition. The drivers seat and all the other seats still have ample support and are not sagging, and the package shelf over the back seat is fading a bit but is still in nice solid condition. The rugs are faded just a bit at the top of the transmission hump in both front and back seat but the rugs are still quite serviceable. The car doesn't appear to have been smoked in very much if at all as the ash tray up front appears still to be very clean and the car doesn'tsmell unduly strange or all smoked up. The padded dashboard is still in nice solid condition with no cracking or warping, and the aluminum door sills are still in very good serviceable andpresentable condition with the Lincoln insignia's still intact and legible. The headliner appears to be in good shape still. The window glass and the windshieldare free from major pitting, scratching and cracking. The steering wheel surround of thin plastic that surrounds the cruise control buttons is worn a bit at the edges like a majority of these Lincolns are usually found and would require a replacement with a good used one or NOS item, or possible mending to improve its appearance, but it isn't ugly or terribly distracting as it is. The rest of the steering wheel is still in nice condition and is not covered up with a cheap steering wheel wrap! The paint on the dash and steering columnand the Lincoln and Town Car trim scripts inside are still in good condition and not unduly worn or scratched looking as well as all the AC vents. The original rear view mirror is still in nice shape with no weird discolorations and the vanity mirrors and sun visors are still in good shape too. Only the lens on the right vanity mirror lamps need to be put back on (I have them in the glove box) All lights and gauges inside the car are in excellent operating order except for the clock that needs to be properly rebuilt (which is essentially a 100 dollar job but you have to send it out via mail and there are several outlets that rebuild these drum style clocks the right way and not with just a quartz movement! I've just never have got around to it.) I also disconnected the electric seat control on the drivers side solely as a precaution against possible interior car fires and nothing else. (sad to say this has happened to these magnificentcars more than once because of the aging electric seat switches that are constantly powered up even when the ignition is off.) However, this car HAS NOT had such an event happen to it! Lastly, just last week the optional Quadrasonic AM-FM 8-Track radio that had been working and sounding great including the 8-Track function, ceased to function altogether, probably due to a internal malfunction of the aging electronics. Good news is that I do possess a spare exact replacement radio that I will include with the car upon sale.
Moving to the exterior: The body is largely solid and doesn'tappear to me to have been in any major accidents. The black paint is not perfect but is 100% acceptable and serviceable for a clean driver quality car. The car appears to me to have been repainted in the original color at some point in its life long before I owned it. There is no rust on the body except in two small places I will note. First is a small bubbling area under the stainless trim piece that runs atop the right rear door right below the window area, and the second area is nearby where the trim is under the vinyl top below the opera window area on the right rear quarter panel area. I will be happy to send you images of these spots if you like, just message me through Ebay. The padded half vinyl roof appears to be original and is still in very nice and pliable condition. no cracking or swelling. The illuminated coach lights located on either side of the roof are still in good shape and are not unduly cracked and do still function as they should. All lenses are still in decent original condition and are not unduly aged looking or cracked. The stainless and chrome are still serviceable, not perfect but still serviceable. There is a bit of pitting to the chrome on the mirrors and to a lesser extent on a few piecesof miscellaneouschrome like the hood emblem and trunk hasp, but it is hardly ugly or unduly distracting. The grille is in nice original shape. The front and rear bumpers are on the car straight and are not crooked or misaligned with good condition impact strips still. The wheel covers are in good shape as well, not all banged up with undue curb rash and Lincoln insignia's are still intact as they should be. All glass, including the exterior glass on both mirrors are still in good shape. No cracks or wiper scrapes are on the windshield.
Now moving into the trunk area: The carpets in the trunk are age stained a bit but are overall largely very clean and are still serviceable with no funky odors present. The side snap on curtains are still in nice shape andsnap on as intended. The plastic bar that covers the reflector lens that runs between the rear tail lights is warped some over the right side. The full size spare tire is fully functionaland is not a rotten old flat tire. All jacking parts are intact and stored properly. The jacking instructions are still intact and in good shape on the inside of the trunk lid. The automatic trunk release functions as it should. The rubber seals do not appear to be messed up and the trunk doesn't appear to be leaking at all.
Now the engine bay area: Paint on the engine is aged looking somewhat. The air cleaner assembly could stand a repaint in the original color. The valve cover paint is aged as well but it isn't unduly distracting looking for a car of its age. The fender well liner paint is intact and is presentable. The engine compartment could use a detail and has not been done by me. There isn't a whole lot of oil leaks apparent around the valve covers. All hoses and vacuumlines are routed properly. The tank for the windshield washer fluid is in good shape and the unit functions properly. The hood liner is intact and is in serviceable shape, not partially loose or unduly oil stained or shredded up by a fan belt.
Now finally the mechanics: The 460 V8 engine runs great (and I always use at least mid-grade fuel, never regular gas) The car has had a major tune-up within the last six months to include all new cap, rotor, wires and plugs. The carb was also rebuilt about four months ago. New fuel filter, rebuilt R-134-A charged air conditioning system works great and was completely rebuilt by a professional air conditioning mechanic about five months ago. The exhaust is proper for the car with catalytic converters still intact and functioning properly and the exhaust appears to have been replaced in recent times and is of a good quality. The tires were replaced by me about five months ago and are a matched set of whitewall tires purchased at Firestone. The car brakes fine without pulling to one side and the steering is in good order as well without undue play or shimmy. You can drive this car at 80 MPH on the interstate all afternoon with no sweat...not that I recommend you do that in front of a state trooper or anything!
Miscellaneousstuff...the cruise control does engage, but is not staying on the same preset speed, so I don't use it. Perhaps it is the servo that is the issue here, but I have not seriously looked into fixing it as I hardly ever use it and it has honestly slipped my mind until now. The car sounds fine at highway speeds, all windows seat up properly and there isn't undue wind noise inside the cabin at highway speeds or any slower speeds. So, in summationthe radio has recently ceased to function, the clock does not work and the cruise control acts a bit faulty, that is pretty much it! For 6000 dollars you will buy a great looking clean largely original driver quality Lincoln Town Car that will be the envy of all your friends and neighbors!
