1974 Lincoln Mark IV
Ah, the 1970's. It was the big decade, a time for big houses, big hair, big families, big bell bottoms, and big cars! Despite this being the Malaise Era, status seekers still knew what they liked. Show the world you have arrived with a Fleetwood. Keep up with the Jones' by buying a Cutlass. But according to stories I have heard, if you were the owner of a Steak House, or a Car Wash, you drove one of these...the Lincoln Continental Mark IV.
For consignment, priced for the everyday man, this large and in charge Lincoln MK IV. Big steel panels, a padded vinyl roof, and plenty of legroom, allow you to stretch out and go for a cruise, all the while turning heads on Main Street!
Exterior
Those large steel panels are straight and original, as we're talking a consigner stated actual mileage car here, that being 28,080 miles. Unfortunately, the title reads exempt due to the age of the car. Original Green Diamond Fire Metallic drapes all the steel surfaces on this biggie, with a color name as long as the actual car. This is topped off with a Dark Green Vinyl padded top, featuring opera windows mounted in the "B" pillars. Working hidden headlights, flank a massive Rolls-Royce Style grille that protrudes from the hood. A near perfect chrome bumper wraps around the bottom. Thin banded stainless trim makes its way rearward circumnavigating the wheel wells, and rocker panels, ending at the rear bumper, which is also pristine. Badging is all correct, gaps are well minded, and even exterior rear-view mirrors are near perfect. Medium thickness whites surround massive plated wheel covers, all original.
Interior
Square green tufted and buttoned leather flank 2 leather armrests and make up the "cushy" front seating. The same for the passengers in the rear, although they get a large bench. Door panels have similar treatment and have wood grained panels intermixed with the green leather. Within the doors we note joystick controls for the mirror and seat, power windows, and power locks for the doors and windows. A showroom headliner is tightly hung above, and even the interior courtesy light works! Looking toward the dash we see burl and woodgrain, with climate control, clock and speedometer, an original AM/FM Cassette radio, and several warning lights, all framed by a green padded vinyl upper dash, with no cracks or marring. Thick pile green carpeting showing very little wear or fading is flooding the floors.
Drivetrain
To propel this mass, within a clean engine bay, is a 460ci V8 shoehorned into the space. This is topped by a gas guzzling, but power adding 4-barrel carburetor, and backed by a 3-speed automatic C6 transmission. I can tell you from a test drive, there aren't enough O's in smooooooth, to describe the wonderful ride, and shifting I got from my test drive.
Undercarriage
Clean and clear, virtually no rust excepting for the occasional and uneventful surface rust which has accumulated over the year, but certainly has not impeded the structural underpinnings of this big car. Independent front suspension, and 4 link rear suspension, Power disc upfront, and power drum in the rear for brakes and a Ford 9" rear with a 2.75 gear ratio.
In the day this car was way out of reach for the masses, and now sits in pristine condition awaiting its next driver who can just smile in the ride, and comfort this car has to offer. All original, well maintained, and pampered, this low mileage example is sure to please even the most discriminating vintage '70's luxury car aficionado.
