1949 Lincoln CosmopolitanOriginalLincoln interiorOriginal 71 year old paint337cid Lincoln Flathead V81 year only "fastback" town coupesNO RESERVE AUCTIONUp for sale is a beautiful 1949 Lincoln Cosmopolitan fastback sedan. This 1949 Lincoln has significance among the automotive community and Lincoln historians at large. 1949 marked the first year after WWII that Lincoln introduced an all new body style and the Lincoln Cosmopolitanwas the flagship model in the lineup. This was the first time Lincoln did not incorporate runningboards, the headlights and taillightswere recessed or "frenched" and the iconic Lincoln "suicide doors" appeared for the 1949 Cosmopolitan. This car would also mark the first time a Lincoln would be powered by a V8. The 337 cubic inch Flathead V8 was the largest flat headthat was put into a production car, the only other vehicles that shared the 337 was the heavy duty Ford truck line. Finally this car is the last Lincoln to have a manual transmission until the new millenniumwith the 2000 Lincoln LS. 1949 was the only year a Lincoln Cosmopolitan was availablein the fastback design, out of 73,507 Lincoln built in 1949 only 7,302 were built as the fastback town coupes. This car has been apart of an extensive car collection specializingin Fords, Lincolns and Mercury's. The Cosmopolitan was purchased in 1970 from the original owner in San Rafael, CA. The car was parked in front of the owners home when some neighborhood kids were engaging in some hi jinks and poured sand into the gas tank of the Lincoln. After that incident the car was parked and never touched until now. This a great foundation to restore a rare and significant classic Lincoln.Cosmetically this car is in decent shape for being over 7 decades old. The body is fairly straight and rust free after decades inside climate controlled storage. The passenger front fender has a dent that appears to have been popped out. The paint is original except for the trunk lid. All of the chrome is in good shape and could be polished out to shine. The car is complete with no trim, hubcaps or emblems missing.Step inside this luxuriousLincoln and the 71 year old interior is gorgeous. The post war opulence and design is remarkable. The original seats are i great shape with no rips or tears. The dash is in great shape with all of the originalgauges still clear and present as well as the detailed steering wheel large enough to steer a boat. The overall presentation of the interior is unmistakablylate 40s and early 50s luxury. The headliner is in perfect shape as well. Again nothing is missing everything has been left untouched since 1970.Mechanically this car is not currently running. That being said the motor apparently was rebuilt in the 60s and should be in good shape internally. As mentioned the gas tank had sand poured into it and the process or replacing was begun but never completed. The gas tank is currently removed. Everything will need to be gone through in order to make this car a safe cruiser.NO RESERVE THIS ITEM WILL SELL TO THE FINAL BIDDER!This listing includes well over 75 detailed photos and the vehicle has been described as descriptive as possible.
