1941 Lincoln Continental Description

Originally conceived as one of Edsel Ford's personal cars in 1939, the attention from its good looks pushed Ford to put the Edsel's custom Lincoln design into production as the Continental in 1940. Based on the Zephyr and offered in both coupe and convertible forms, the Continental shared the Zephyr's 125 inch wheelbase and twelve cylinder engine, but had a longer hood, was lower, was sectioned by 3 inches and was $3000 dollars, almost double the cost of the Zephyr. For the 1941 model year the Continental was refined, looking very similar to the 1940 cars but having design refinements such as push button door handles and upgraded trim. The 1941 Lincoln Continental is arguably one of the best looking immediate pre-war American cars and one of the best looking of all time.

Over the years, especially in the 1940's and 1950's people have always loved to customize cars to make them sleeker or betterlooking in some way, as was done in the hot rod and custom movements of the 1940's and 1950's. Customizing was usually done to Fords or Mercurys, but a 1941 Lincoln was a car that already had that custom sleek look from the start and needs very little in way of looks to go up against some of the best looking customs of its time.

OFFERED HERE:is one of only 850 Lincoln Continental coupes built in 1941, but its not your usual 1941 Lincoln. Customized early on in the 1960's and featured in a few early Autorama shows here in Connecticut, this Continentalhas had its inherentlyproblematic V-12 engine replaced with a 1957 Thunderbird 312 cubic inch V8 engine! Still retaining its original Lincoln three speed manual transmission on the column, this continental is really a blast to drive. Reliable, fast, and a real old custom. Cosmetically, this car was just pulled from a barn where it sat for a while so its paint is peeling, but it just has a really good look. No filler or rust, the body is super straight. On the inside, the upholstery has a little 1960's custom touch with red pleated seats and white piping. The tires are new and it runs and drives great. This car runs so good it can be driven daily and would certainly get a lot of attention at a custom car show, or any car show for that matter. Contact us for more information.
