This coupe was fully restored by the previous owner, an engineer who held a number of patents and collected certain, significant cars, focusing on Lincolns.
Under the hood is the 368 CID Lincoln Y-block V-8 engine, making around 285 horsepower and mated to a three-speed Turbo-Drive automatic transmission. This Lincoln also has a new fuel tank with a complete fuel system – lines, filters and booster pump – through to the carburetor.
The car has been driven approximately 500 miles since its restoration in (date). Outside, it is painted a period correct Starmist White with Amethyst, which is echoed once you open a door to the interior. Driver assist features include power steering and power four-wheel drum brakes. The front suspension was independent with a stabilizer bar. Car rides on original equipment steel wheels with hubcaps set inside Coker Classics wide whitewall tires.
Inside, you’ll find factory air-conditioning, four-way power seats and power windows. Air-conditioning back then was an exotic and rare option and in this car, the cooled air went to the roof through a pair of clear, plastic tubes visible through the back window on each side, connecting upward from the rear package tray. This set-up, much like that on an airplane, takes advantage of physics – cold air falls. Only 10 percent of Premieres came with this factory option. In this car, the air-conditioning is functional but it doesn’t blow cold, the system may need charging. Of the dashboard gauges, the fuel gauge is inoperative and the windshield wipers do not work but the car has Dynamat heat-proofing and sound deadening applied to the floorpan, color-coded seat belts and comes with the original radio and a power antenna.
Besides restoring this Lincoln, the car’s previous owner always believed the 1956 Premiere was one of the most elegant cars of the 1950s; he managed to find a collection of three 1956 Premiere Hardtops, all of them equipped with factory air-conditioning. He selected the best of the trio as the basis for this complete restoration.
The Lincoln Premiere, despite the French word for “first” in its name, ranked below the Continental Mark II and above the Capri in the company’s model hierarchy. The Premiere’s appearance borrowed from the radically different concept cars, the Mercury XM-800 and the Lincoln Futura, and the Premiere was known for its stylish exterior, high-grade interior and some unique features.
Some examples of this car’s 1956 competition included the Cadillac Eldorado Seville, the BMW 503 coupe and the Chrysler New Yorker St. Regis two-door hardtop.
Current mileage on the odometer shows 33,080 miles. It is sold as is and on a clear and mileage exempt title. GET OUT AND DRIVE!
