1965 Maserati Original Quattroporte 4.2 Series I
1965 Maserati Quattroporte Description
Documented by Maserati Historical records; this 1965 Maserati Quattroporte was built on February 16, 1965 and originally delivered to Germany. Aside from a 25 year old respray; it is generally represented in original condition. The previous owner purchased the car in 1972 and I bought it in 2011 to add to my collection. The original exterior paint color is dark red (rosso rubino chiaro) with a white (neutro) leather interior. Please note the interior has some soiling but no visible tears and is in amazingly good condition. The level of detail on this Maserati interior with all the original chrome trim is amazing. All the glass is in good to excellent condition. The power windows remain untested. The engine is the original matching number 4 cam 4.2L V8 that was used in other period Maserati sports cars and powered this Quattroporte as the fastest production sedan in the world at the time it was introduced. The manual 5 speed ZF S 5/325 gearbox is also original but untested. The engine runs relatively smoothly with good oil pressure. Most, if not all, the gauges work but the tachometer is intermittent an some are untested until the car is actually driven. The oil pressure gauge reads about 55 kg/cm2 at idle. The oil temp, water temp & charging system gauges seem to work. However, the cooling system was not restored so the engine was run sparingly for just a couple minutes to avoid any overheating. The gas tank was not used and new gas was put directly into the carburetor fuel line for testing. The brakes need to be completely rebuilt. This car is very complete and only missing the spare wheel and hub caps. There is an original tool kit that appears to be mostly complete. Please note the spare battery tray and general trunk area are relatively solid. The outer rocker sections on both sides have significant rust. The main floor pans & rear suspension mounts appear to be solid. There is also some rust starting in the lower door skins. Although not noticeable in the photos, the hood has some repair in the hinge area but the car comes with another hood in much better condition. This car is certainly worth restoring as one is currently listed for $78k now but I would guess the components alone are worth more than my reserve. My intention is to let the auction run its course but I reserve the right to end the auction early. Please note the $1,000 winning bidder Paypal deposit is non-refundable and final payment must be made by wire or certified bank check. I will gladly assist with your car hauler schedule and the car does roll freely but is quite heavy. I welcome any questions or inspections with 24 hour notice. There are posted videos of the engine running & oil pressure on Youtube under 1965 Maserati Quattroporte. Good luck to all who bid and feel free to discuss most anytime three1nine seventwo1 fortythree fiftysix.
