1988 Mazda RX-7 Description

Basic Info & Installed Parts

-150,000 miles on body / 100K+ on a small block 305 V8 out of a 1988 Firebird using

-Granny’s Speedshop engine cradle kit

-New power steering pump (Connected/installed but bypassed)

-Fresh oil, filter, spark plugs, & rebuilt Holley 4160 carburetor

-Hedman Hedders 69640 Street Headers (2.5” collector)

-Mr. Gasket external electric fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator and gauge

-Summit Water temp, oil pressure, voltage gauges

-700R4 automatic transmission with B&M ratchet shifter

-Stock RX7 rear differential (Non-LSD) with a custom driveshaft

-Manuals & receipts for most parts installed and parts that I purchased (Over $800 worth)

-Box full of extra/removed Chevy & Mazda parts

What it needs

-Exhaust. It’s straight just open headers.(Loud!) Two mufflers and a Summit Racing X-pipe are included, I was quoted $150 from a local exhaust shop to run pipes and install everything. (2.5”)

-Connect power steering. New GM PS pump is installed on the engine and plumed to the rack, but a pressure reducer fitting needs to be installed to match the operating pressure of the Mazda rack. (I have a link to the part) The pump pulley is bypassed so it can be driven as is without the pump turning.(Meaning your arms will get a workout!)

-Convertible Top. There is one installed, but there are plenty of holes. I glued on marine grade canvas as a temporary solution in the event I was caught out in the rain. I have before & after pics.

-Driver side window switch. It does not work and the window is down. Common problem on these cars, switches are ~$40-$50 on eBay or you can wire in a universal kit. (Easy)

-Keys. The car is wired up to start off switches installed on a blanking plate where the radio normally would be. The car has no keys and should not be locked. (Fuel door and trunk do open/function)

-New Hood. Installed hood has cut outs for the filter, belt tensioner, and alternator. Realistically just the hood bracing needs to be cut to clear the tensioner and alternator, and I have a smaller air cleaner to fit under a new Summit hood scoop. Dent free junkyard hood is included so these changes can be made.

Description

This is a project car that I purchased back in March 2016 with the V8 already swapped in. I love it and would definitely keep going on it but with recent purchases it doesn’t make sense for me to have five cars. (Well to my wife at least!)

It starts, runs, and stops all under its own power as it should however the stock gauges do not work. The company site that makes the engine cradle kit has complete instructions on how to get them working.(Can provide a link) I have only taken it around the block a few times as a shakedown run to test a new fix or installed part but I don’t see why it could not be driven home.(Keep in mind no power steering!) Body has dings, scratches, and normal rust for a 28 year old, but it’s definitely not a junker!

  • I have a link to my Flickr account with 70+ additional pictures I can send, if there are pictures of anything in particular that you want to see let me know and I can snap a few more.
  • I have a DropBox link that has all the info, manuals, and receipts that I have accumulated that I can share as well since eBay does not let me post them.
  • Buyer is responsible for paying/coordinating shipping but I am willing to work with a carrier to arrange a pickup time/location.
