1993 LX 1.8 DOHC w/5spd Manual transmission ***NO RUST From Phoenix, AZ*** BG
1993 Mazda Protege Description
This is a 1993 Mazda Protégé LX (BG series meaning it came from the factory with a 1.8 DOHC BP Mazda engine) This is the same engine found in the 1994 through 1997 Mazda Miata for reference.
We purchased this car in Phoenix, Arizona area and kept it down there at my parents house for several years but now have it up in the Chicago, IL area. It has not YET seen a Chicago winter. (so no salt for potential rust exposure)
We have done a lot of maintenance to get this car to being very reliable and nice to drive now and this list includes:
- New heater core installedOct 2017 with radiator coolant flush so hot heat now! (new radiator hoses too)- NEW OEM Mazda shift lever assembly (old one was worn out and broken making shifting sloppy)- new power steering rackwith newhigh pressure power steering lines less than 100 miles ago.- new complete rear suspension assembly (front was already only 1 year old)- all new motor mounts and transmission mount- new brake lines (replaced rubber brake lines) and brake system fluid flush- new valve cover gasket- new axle- new sway bar bushings- new ball joints and tie rod ends- upgraded the steering wheel to black leather (from a newer Protege5)- aftermarket stereo with new rear speakers- 4 new tires
PROS:
- Rare LX model withManual Transmission with the BG designation meaning DOHC1.8 BP engine- NO RUST Because it spent most of its life in the Phoenix area.- Hot hot heat thanks to a brand new heater core it just received- It has never left us down always starting and running getting us where we wanted to go- All power windows work as expected along with cruise control, horn, etc.- Upgraded leather OEM Protégé steering wheel from a new model- Unusual Mint green color- Aftermarket stereo upgrade with newer rear speakers- Plenty of maintenance done so the new owner only needs to get in and drive!- No accident history to be found(impressive for a 1993 vehicle)
CONS:- Its and older car from Arizona so a lot of theplastic components are brittle and dry- It has a crack just starting to form on the dash- Sunburnt paint especially visible on the hood (typical of cars in the dry Arizona desert)- The headliner is not in very nice shape with pieces of it missing (could use a recover if someone is crafty)- A/C is not functional. It is highly likely it needs a replacement compressor but we did not address this (everything is there, it just doesn't blow cold air and the compressor never seems to want to turn on)
Please note the title is in my name as an Arizona title (and my Arizona plates + insurance) so I would be signing over an Arizona title but YES the car is located in Mount Prospect, IL now.
